    Bill to restrict the first amendment?

    HR 347 regarding protests near the president? I know this isn't about the 2nd amendment but we need to watch those laws that can encroach the 2nd.

    What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand?

    Your link seems to not be working.
    I don't mind watching the OC-Community (tea party 2.0's, who have hijacked the OC-Community) cannibalize itself. I do mind watching OC dragged through the gutter. OC is an exercise of A Right. I choose to not OC; I choose to not own firearms. I choose to leave the OC-Community to it's own self-inflicted injuries, and eventual implosion. Carry on...

    Looks like its on a timer of some sort. Click on the "library of Congress" and do a search for hr 347. It was brought to my attention that it could be easily warped to quell just about any protest or political commentary.

    11/17/2011--Reported to Senate amended. Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011 - Amends the federal criminal code to revise the prohibition against entering restricted federal buildings or grounds to impose criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly enters any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority. Defines "restricted buildings or grounds" as a posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area of: (1) the White House or its grounds or the Vice President's official residence or its grounds, (2) a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting, or (3) a building or grounds so restricted due to a special event of national significance.

    That is the bill, I was told that this can be twisted to be more than what it is. What do you think?

    ‘Sec. 1752. Restricted building or grounds

    ‘(a) Whoever--

    ‘(1) knowingly enters or remains in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so;

    ‘(2) knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, engages in disorderly or disruptive conduct in, or within such proximity to, any restricted building or grounds when, or so that, such conduct, in fact, impedes or disrupts the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions;

    ‘(3) knowingly, and with the intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, obstructs or impedes ingress or egress to or from any restricted building or grounds; or

    ‘(4) knowingly engages in any act of physical violence against any person or property in any restricted building or grounds;

    or attempts or conspires to do so, shall be punished as provided in subsection (b).

    (1) is a given

    (2) & (3) can see an imposition into the exercise of the First Amendment.

    (4) is a given

    ‘(b) The punishment for a violation of subsection (a) is--

    ‘(1) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or both, if--

    ‘(A) the person, during and in relation to the offense, uses or carries a deadly or dangerous weapon or firearm; or

    ‘(B) the offense results in significant bodily injury as defined by section 2118(e)(3); and

    ‘(2) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than one year, or both, in any other case.

    (A) Makes sense. But we should keep an eye on this line.

    Hey if the 2A is open to "reasonable" restrictions why not the rest of them?

    As inclined as I am to acknowledge value in all perspectives (Stuart Mills), there are degrees of Rights. The Second Amendment, more specifically, OC, is a First Amendment exercise as much as a Second Amendment exercise.

    And you just made a convincing argument about how this bill could easily be applied to the second amendment.
