So I just traded my S&W 9mm in for a Springfield XD 45. So far I love it but not real happy with grip. Any comments/suggestions on gun choice or ideas to improve would be greatly appreciated.

We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Perhaps if we knew why you were unhappy with the grip...
What I tell my students is that it can be a good idea to go to a range that will rent you some different guns. I'd perfer that they waste $50 on rentals than $500 on a gun they don't like.
Personally I dont like the XD's thick and wide grip...Love my Glock.
I know this is stupid but I gotta ask. If you don't like it, why did you get it?

Saying you didn't like your XD .45 grip does lead to questions about what you don't like about it.
Meanwhile, back at the range, you might consider Hogue grips. Folks who I know have them, seem to really love them!

I love the way it shoots and really everything about it other then the fact that it has a kinda slippery feel to the grip. I was told today that there are no grips made for it because there are no removable panels and my only option was grip tape. Sorry for being so vague earlier.

I used to have an XD9 and know what you mean about the grip. It never bothered me too much but I can see how it would bother some.

There are gross made for the that are adhesive panels that you apply to it. They are made in both a rubber and more aggressive sand paper like texture. I don't know for sure, but I think A-grips makes some for the XD line, if not, you can find them on eBay. There used to be a guy on xdtalk.com that also made them - not sure if he still does.

Short answer is you should have bought the XD/M. Much better grips with three removable back straps. Higher capacity mags, match grade barrel, while the XD is a very good gun, the XD/M is much better. You can use skate board tape on the grips. That should solve your problem.

That statement isn't true; I have a pistol that has FULL houge grips and my wife has a matching pistol that has a PARTIAL houge grip. She said might full grip is to big for her to comfortabley hold when shooting. The partial houge grip slides right onto the stock grips on you XD. They will be tight getting it on and there are tricks to sliding it on and to where you want it. No screws or hardware needed, she really likes the partial grip on her pistol.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I'm heading out tomorrow to visit some gun stores that say they have options for me ( houge,pachmyr, etc) if not I'll go with the adheisive. And I would have loved to buy the XDm but unfortunately a little outta my price range at this time. I've been out of work for 3 months and just starting a new job Monday. Again thank you all and your suggestions are greatly appriciated being Im fairly new at handguns.

You could also go with a stipling job. I am currently doing this on my own to one of my pistols. There are various ways to do this or you could have a gun smith do it. I'll post a couple pics of mine when I can.

When I bought my XD .40 I did as much research as I could before I bought my gun. I went with the XD.40 and not the XD/M because I didn't like the grip on the XD/M and fell in love with the XD grip. I have also had a bit of slip the last time I went out but I was also breaking in a new rifle and had a bit of gun cleaner residue on my hands. That being said before you went out and spent more money on some grips I would try shooting it a few more times. Heck maybe even wear a pair of thin gloves if you have sweaty hands, but hey if you wanna put some nice new grips on it more power to ya. I saw one of those used at a gun store not long back. The previous owner had completely done the entire grip of the Glock. He had also painted it a liught whitish-gray.
It looked like it would now be perfect for a storm trooper uniform.
