Got a robo-call from Gun Owners of America tonight stating that HB 1160 had passed both houses and was sitting on the Governor's desk, but that he wasn't wanting to sign it. They are asking folks to call the Governor and ask him to sign it.

But the current history doesn't seem to indicate that the bill is there yet. What's the scoop?

I don't know where GOA got that information TFred. If it was the NRA, I'd just chalk it up to a loose nut behind the wheel but GOA is usually pretty much with the program.

Getting it to the Governor today and him not wanting to sign it would be pretty darn fast.

I summarized... the message said something about him getting wishy-washy and asking "his buddies" in the legislature to kill the bill, which they didn't, and now it's on his desk, but he doesn't want to sign it.

The last steps on both sides was to reject an amendment, and it appears that both sides had overwhelmingly passed the bill in one form or another. This is why I asked... something fishy going on.

i happened to be watching the senate live feed while this was being discussed.
as best i could tell, the senate simply withdrew their amendments, which the house had rejected the previous day. it sounded like that they were saying that was all that was necessary to revert to the prior house version (2/14, passed 96 to 4).

you're right though, i didn't actually see any vote, following the 'recede' vote, to pass the bill in it's reverted form. maybe the 'receding' vote, 37 to 1, counts as passage? i wish i understood the parliamentary procedure and house/senate rules better. :uhoh:

and really curious about the gov...

The phrase "veto-proof" has been bandied about due to the overwhelming and bipartisan support for this bill.

McDonnell doesn't need to do anything, but to sign it into law would go a long way towards his VP aspirations in a VERY DISILLUSIONED Virginia to the coming electoral cycle.

I don't believe it. I just called McDonnell's office....and got voice mail:uhoh:

Suppose someone had a government, and no one came:lol:

I just talked to the Clerk of the Senate...HB1160 has passed and is in McDonnell's hands...wherever he is.
