Just a guess, but it was widely reported that November and December 2011 both broke all time records for firearm sales nationwide. Many people gave and /or received a gun for Christmas. It would follow that a lot of new gun owners are applying for permits to carry.

Fear of a government (regardless of party) that seems hell-bent on banning all guns.

Fla. speeding up concealed weapon permit renewals

The Associated Press

Florida is speeding up the process for renewing concealed weapons permits to meet a growing demand from gun owners.

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam was on hand at his Fort Walton Beach office on Tuesday to announce the new process.

It's one of eight regional offices across Florida where license holders can obtain same-day renewals.

The FAST Track service will help the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services meet increased demand for concealed weapons and firearms permits.

The department last month distributed a record 53,835 applications for concealed weapons permits.

To use the new service, license holders must call to schedule appointments and bring unsigned applications and checks or money orders to pay their fees.

Staffers will notarize their signatures and take their photographs at no additional charge.
