Cop Kicks Woman In Face; Will Serve No Prison Time

    http://news.providencejournal.com/br...-police-3.html

Edward M. Krawetz, the suspended Lincoln patrolman convicted of battery for kicking a handcuffed woman in the head outside the Twin River slot parlor, was imposed a 10-year suspended sentence with probation and was ordered to undergo counseling. He will serve no prison time.
Superior Court Judge Edward C. Clifton convicted Krawetz, of Lincoln, on Jan. 23 after a non-jury trial during which the prosecutor asserted that Krawetz committed the felony when he kicked Donna Levesque, of Uxbridge, Mass., in the head on the evening of May 31, 2009.
What this article doesn't mention is that Krawetz had a prior record; he had plead no contest to simple assault a few yeas ago.

Officer Edward Krawetz, 47, was given a 10-year suspended sentence with probation. He was found guilty in January of felony battery with a dangerous weapon for kicking Donna Levesque, of Uxbridge, Mass. The incident occurred as Levesque sat on a curb outside the Twin River Casino waiting for a patrol car to pick her up for booking on a disorderly conduct charge on May 31, 2009.
    ...
In arguing for prison time, Regine cited a 2001 incident in which Krawetz pleaded no contest to a simple assault charge and was suspended from his job. The suspension was served one day a week over about five months, Harwood said.

What do you tell a woman who has 2 black eyes?

    Nothing...

    She's been told twice already.

I know that's a very rude and classless joke. Violence against women is a gross crime and should not be tolerated in a civililized nation.

In Saudi Arabia there are over a million battered women.

In America we eat them plain.

If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training. You will become a minister of death, PRAYING FOR WAR...

New England, Rhode Island, and the point of this story is what, again?

It is AFAIK original to me. Compromise is failure on the installment plan, particularly when dealing with so intractable an opponent as ignorance. - Nightmare

To further illustrate the absurd double-standard in the way police violence is treated compared to civilian violence. This forum is dedicated to carrying tools which we hope will protect us in violent situations, and such carrying often involves, unfortunately and unneccessarily, involves police interaction. It is good to know how differently the injustice system treats those who pay to operate it and those who are paid by it and are accoutered with a shiny piece of State-issued costume jewelry.

I would also point out to you that this is the Social Lounge.

Since you will no doubt delete your inane comment forthwith, why did you bother posting it?

Violence against women appears to be an accepted thing by some cops, especially in particular departments.

Back in '96, the Chicago FOP went on National Public Radio to demand that convicted wife beaters be allowed to own and carry guns... but ONLY if they had badges.

Their "argument" can be summarized as follows:

    1. You can't take the gun from a cop who batters his wife. It's his "tool of the trade". Being that it was NPR, nobody bothered to ask why that didn't apply equally to hit men.
    2. If you take the gun from an angry, violent cop, that'll only make him MORE angry and violent. Again, nobody asked why that didn't apply to hit men, drug dealers, et al.
    3. You can let a wife beating cop carry a gun because he'll be "closely supervised"... just not closely enough to keep him from kicking his wife's teeth down her throat.

I'd like to be able to pretend that this is some kind of aberration, but all evidence points in exactly the opposite direction.

you must not be familiar with NE or some of those employed by the state in NE.

    When does forthwith expire?
