While overshadowed by espionage against corporations, efforts by foreign countries to penetrate universities have increased in the past five years, Figliuzzi said. The FBI and academia, which have often been at loggerheads, are working together to combat the threat, he said.

Foreigners on temporary visas made up 46 percent of science and engineering graduate students at Georgia Institute of Technology and Michigan State and 41 percent at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009, according to a federal survey. China sent 76,830 graduate students to U.S. universities in 2010-2011, more than any other country and up almost 16 percent from the prior year, according to the Institute of International Education in New York.

So what? It's not like we don't do the exact same (and much worse) overseas.

Hell, the Israelis have been caught spying on us multiple times, and we still can't restrain ourselves from giving them the very latest and greatest in weaponry.

It's also worth noting that this wouldn't be the first time an American government has manufactured a foreign threat to gin up support for a foreign policy objective. Russia, the only nation whose spies are pictured in the article, has been dubbed "America's number one geopolitical foe" by Mitt Romney (the squatter in the White House's administration has not been much friendlier).

Cui bono?

Spies in our Universities

The weird thing about this is they are probably just thinking of the ones here with a visa BUT what about the home grown spies ? Just something to think about huh ? .:uhoh:

Funny thing is, most of these "spies" in US universities are almost certainly on CIA's payroll...
