J4l, I am guessing he did it to improve the grip. I would think it is similar to those who put a wraparound grip on their 1911s.

Correct, the factory grip is only so-so, I didn't really realize the difference until I stippled one of the unused backs traps. Instantly I could tell a huge difference.

Also I did 2 small patches where originally there was no texture, just behind the slide release where my thumb sits and above the trigger guard where my index finger sits.

I guess i should have added it but here is a before shot.

Had to do my brother in laws Taurus 24/7 9mm Saturday night. It came out nice. Before that thing was slick as can be.

There's a surprising amount of freedom to change things, to start over with a different kid of stippling. It's almost like molding clay.
