Buckhorn anticipates sending Scott a letter soon asking the state to explore a way to suspend the law temporarily during the Aug. 27–30 convention. He hopes that would create a way to ban concealed weapons inside the city's proposed "Clean Zone," which covers downtown and surrounding areas.

The long game is obvious here. Once Tampa has the right to ban concealed carry inside the "clean zone" (note the conflation of guns with "unclean") on a certain date, keeping them from getting the right to ban concealed carry throughout the whole city, or on any date they want, becomes a lot harder. Keeping Palm Beach County from getting what Tampa has would be a lot harder too. Once you've conceded a little bit, you'll end up being forced to concede a lot.
