This has happened almost every time I have been to cabelas. I finally had to email cabelas corporate office that I get stopped almost every time (4 out of 5 times, the only time I have never been stopped is when I entered with a friend) and they issued me an apology letter and said they would contact the management of that store, I returned 3 weeks later (4/12/2012) and got stopped again. I have since been purchasing my firearm needs and sporting goods at gander mountain. Gander mountain does not even escort you out of the building when you purchase a firearm.

Lol. I actually looked up Gander Mountain because I had never heard of it. Looks like there aren't any West of Colorado. Too bad, I love going to sporting stores.

As for Cabelas, I have't had a problem there, but I've only been to the one in Lacey. I actually haven't had a problem at any sporting stores.

Here in Minnesota some people just are not used to armed citizens, I purchased a walther P22 at cabelas with no purchase of ammo and got walked out I asked the guy "why are you escorting me out with my recent purchase of a .22 pistol when i did not purchase ammo with it, yet I have a fully loaded 9mm at my side and an extra magazine on the opposite hip" "store policy he replies". In February I purchased an ar-15 at gander mountain he rung me up for me and loaded it my cart and said "have fun" I replied " are you not going to lead me out the store?" He replied "no,we don't require you to leave, but i see you didn't get any ammunition for that rifle, would you like me to show you where we keep it?". My jaw dropped and i told him "that was the greatest thing i have ever heard"

Just watched the video, I think that was a fantastic resolution. The guy seemed sincere in his apology and happy to have you as a customer. I would actually give Cabela's a +1 for this.

I was escorted out of a Cabellas with the purchase of a firearm but if the truth be told I requested this service and wanted it all the way to my vehicle. I was on crutches and found it problematic to manipulate the crutches, the newly purchased firearm and ammo, plus my holstered sidearm on my hip all at the same time. They did comply with my request!

I OC'd there on Saturday, for about 5 hours, and had no issues.

As a matter of fact, there was a young chick that worked there, and had apparently asked her coworker about it, I only caught the tail end of the conversation though....from about 20' away, strong side.... which was 'Oh yeah, that's completely fine, as long as it stays in its holster'..

I do NOT agree with their 'any gun except a holstered one needs to be checked and kept with an employee at all times' policy....

I used my Wilson case to hold my Draco... I walked right past their 'checkpoint'... about 20 minutes later I had a plainclothes LP guy ask me if I had a firearm in my bag, I turned it around, and held it up so you could see it was a tennis racket bag that said 'Wilson', and just smiled.. didn't say a word... He apologized, and explained their firearms policy.... I didn't have to lie to him, he drew his own conclusions....

About 3 hours in line, and after chatting with the people in line, a guy (customer) finally noticed that my bag looked a little heavy to be a tennis racket... I spilled the beans, and he laughed, because he wasn't expecting that, and admitted it was a damned good idea and wondered aloud why he hadn't thought about it..

For reference... (with a draco instead of an AR pistol)

I went to Cabalas on the second day. No worries. Walked past the manager and several LEOs without a problem. Only one comment of "What are you packin'? ". I do get tired of that phrase.

I was there Friday and Saturday, it was one of those days just before walking inside a Strong side left OCer whisked past me. It was busy and I had to look down for a moment so I didn't trip on sidewalk, when I look up the OCer was gone (already inside). I wasn't carrying, had just come from the base.

If it was Saturday around 12:30-1pm it could have been me. Leather western-style holster (with a Texas star) with a Glock...carried at maybe 10-11o'clock. Had just come from the Smokey Point Starbucks meeting another OCer, DCKilla.

New First

Experienced a "first" yesterday when I purchased a new rifle at Cabela's. After paying, they simply handed the box to me (with tape seal, though) and let me carry it out. Have they changed their policy, or is this common when they seal the box with tape?

I was there on Saturday just after the meet with skiingislife. I was carrying a Glock in a black serpa level 2 holster. I had tan cargo pants and maybe a kid in tow.

I was there Sunday

Stayed in line to see Lee Emory. Had my Ruger Black Hawk old cowboy rig. We did not have the time to stay in line so I went to the front and Lee walked right by me. He looked at my rig and I got that warm fuzzy feeling. I noticed that in the same room is a deputy sheriff he just looked at me and just looked the other way, Wow only in America!

Email and ask. I emailed cabelas for stopping my every time I have OC in cabelas. He said we stop everyone with a gun. He even asked me to cover it up I told him mn state law does not require to cover it. I then walked away from him and preceded in the store. I got an apology letter they did ask for my personal information tho I refused and the gentleman said he would forward my email to the CEO or whatever person who knows maybe I started something that would be kicksa**
