Gun owner stops knife-wielding man from stabbing shoppers.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store.

Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people."

Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms."

Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man. And many, like Danylle Julian, are still in shock from the experience. "Scary actually. Really scary. Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me."

Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. (We will update as soon as we learn new information.)

So far, police have not released the names of the suspect, the victims or the man who pulled the gun.

im sure the media would somehow someway spin this story to say it was the man with the guns' fault.

unfortuantly, the citizen did not shoot. not sure what state that was in (utah?) but in MO, i would of been well within my right to protect myself and to protect a 3rd person against serious injury or death (serious injury already occured at that point).

Yes, this was here in Utah and the gentleman with a gun was well within his rights to squeeze the trigger. He showed great restraint in not shooting, and it was a good outcome. Thus far everything I have seen in the media has been positive.

I think we need stricter knife control laws.

Sadly, not one mention of incidents like this in any newspaper or on one TV station in Australia. But our media reports every single shooting by a madman, then nothing but media hype for weeks screaming further tightening of the already strictest gun laws in the western world.

In the land of (allegedly no guns or knives), and after the Howard governments steal-back, its illegal to carry a gun or knife for self defence down under, and both are banned. Yet criminals not only carry them, they use them on a daily basis. This thief not only steals his groceries, including a knife, (this saves carrying one to the scene), then demands money at the checkout and gets it!!!!!!!!! What wasnt reported was the fact that hundreds of people just stood there, either in fear of being injured or killed, unable or now unwilling to do a thing to stop the thief? Where were the police? Well they turned up some time later, took statements, interviewed the checkout opperator and left!

Our governmant has made our country a criminals heaven.

Marketown supermarket robbed at knifepoint

A MAN robbed the Coles supermarket at Marketown at knifepoint last night.
Police said the man entered the supermarket about 9.30pm, took food from the shelves and lined up at the checkout.

He then produced a knife and demanded money.

Attempted knifepoint robbery at Jewells

DETECTIVES are looking into an attempted robbery at knifepoint in Lake Macquarie last night.
The victim, 17, told police he was walking along Ntaba Road at Jewells about 11.10pm with a friend when they were approached by a man.

The man inquired after drugs before getting into a red hatchback with no registration plates and leaving the scene.

A short time later the 17-year-old was approached by the same man, who produced a small silver knife and pressed it against his stomach while demanding money.

No-one was injured in the incident.

The attacker has been described as aged in his late 30s to early 40s with a solid build.

He had a tattoo on the left side of his face and a cast on his left wrist.

He was last seen wearing a zip-up jacket, navy trackpants and white joggers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lake Macquarie police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Men armed with machete and gun rob 7-Eleven
06 Aug 12 | A 7-ELEVEN at Lambton was robbed this morning after men armed with a gun and machete threatened the shop attendant. The Croudace Street convenience store employee was putting rubbish out about 2am when a man threatened the worker with a gun, police said.

A second man was armed with a machete.

The robbers followed the employee inside.

A third man was at the front door.

The worker was forced behind the counter and money was taken from the cash drawer.

The thieves ran from the shop, heading east.

What? He didn't get a mile ? Surprise surprise!

Maybe knife-purchasers should be escorted out of the store from now on like certain larger outdoor sporting goods stores do with those who purchase firearms?

I hope this gets attention from major news outlets! Glad the armed citizen was there.
