I've been invited to go with my girlfriend and a couple of her friend's to Cherokee N.C. next weekend, they're looking to come down and play some high stakes bingo down there. My query is this, what should I expect in reference to carrying in N.C.?

I checked the Pack-N-Go website and see that according to it, I can CC while down there and as I understand it, I'd have to have a permit for OC, is this correct?

I know that chances are the place they're going is a casino type establishment that's supposedly operated by the Cherokee indians. Am I correct in my assumption that any form of carry will be forbidden and/or illegal inside?

In short, what do I need to know before heading down there next weekend?

Thanks in advance for any and all information that you guys can provide about this matter.

P.S. Are there any gun stores/firing ranges in Cherokee?

EDIT: I just found and read through the flyer in the sticky. It was very informative but above and beyond that info, if there;s anything else I should know, please bring me up to speed, if you will. Thanks again.

There is no permit required to OC in NC.

There have been some threads on Cherokee on the forum in the past, perhaps try a search, my memory isn't great but I do recall someone saying it wasn't an issue, not sure about the casino if it's posted or not.

Enjoy your trip!

Handgunlaw has CC listed as legal per the Chief of Police. I'm not sure that anyone has tried OC. Cherokee is tribal land. Personally, I just CC. No way I'm pushing my luck their. It's a little world unto itself. There is a sporting goods store in Whittier, between Sylva and Cherokee. It's part of a gas station. I have not been in a long time, so no idea what they have. There is a public shooting range, but it's out near Cullowhee IIRC.

There is a short blurb about Cherokee if you scroll down to find it here.

After reading through the PDF file, I sent an email to Ben Reed, the Chief of the Cherokee PD. That's been about 3 days ago and I've still yet to hear back from him. Waiting patiently though but time is quickly running out as our trip is this coming weekend.

Just a wrap-up to this post.

We went to Cherokee as planned this past Saturday and the trip went well, considering that when we left Kentucky we were about an hour off schedule and it was very rainy and nasty here. The trip went uneventful, thankfully but once there I was cautious as to whether or not carrying was legal there as the Cherokee chief of police never returned my message but that question was answered once we got ot the to our first of two destinations. Both had signs stating that weapons were not allowed. Being that I had forgotten to inqury here as to whether or not No Firearms signs carried the weight of law in NC, I decided not to push my luck with it.

My friends had a nice time, I ended up sitting outside the casino in the shade for the next 9 hours until they got finished.

Additionaly, I should've thought to ask if there was anything to do in Cherokee other than the bingo game and the casino. To my dismay I learned all to late that there's NOTHING in Cherokee to do; no stores, just bingo, the casino and motels! *LOL*

I must have went to a different Cherokee NC. There were stores and restaurants galore. I concealed carry when I was there in all places except the casino. The casino buffett was the best one I had ever been to as far as food quality and I have been to AC and Vegas.

The fishing is not too bad on the Res. Good in the park too. 9 hours? Man you could have checked out a lot of the smokies in that time. But you're right on one thing. There are only so many plastic imported tomahawks you can look at. There are a couple of really good, real deal craft stores there. Nice handmade stuff. I love those, and ignore most of the rest of it.

Thanks NEUROBLADES for standing up for your constitutional rights. Sorry you had to be treated like a second class citizen, when it came to those rights. the signs only have the power of trespass. the only thing they could have done was told you to leave. BTW, signs?what signs?. you could only be charged if you refused to leave

The same is true of signage here in Kentucky, they hold no weight of law, as in other states. I wish I had thought to inquire about that small fact before I left. *LOL* At least the next time down, I'll know and can take in the scenery there. Someone here mentioned a real crafts store in Cherokee, i did see that now that you mentioned it.

My friends were hoping to hit the big $35,000 bingo jackpot. *LOL* Sadlym they didn't though and so we drove back that Saturday night and made it back home by 3am.

That's for the confirmation of information about the signs.
