Finally...
I'm posting this in news and political alerts because several states are in the middle of this debate, and this outstanding article serves as a key reminder of the underlying nature of what we all face:
1. Educators and administrators, long in a position of tutelage over smiling young faces, have an over-inflated sense of their own superiority. They believe they know better than the students and their parents what's best for those students.
2. Educators and administrators live in academia. That's fine for learning, but it's not the real world. It's an idealistic world. Thus, educators and administrators are more idealistic and less practical than your average citizen.
3. Legislators are also among those who are both ignorant as well as in key positions to do us grievous harm through their ignorance. They, like school administrators and educators, live insular lives, and after spending any significant time making laws for citizens, they begin to see all citizens as though we were among the five percent for which 95% of the laws are made. Thus, unless they take serious steps to remain well-grounded, their perspective is often skewed, as well.
Colorado is a very pro-2A state, with both a shall-issue CC permit system as well as unlicensed open carry. Both CC and OC are well-tolerated and usually respected by law enforcement throughout the state. Nevertheless, this article is a prime example of how the "arrogant but ignorant" crowd continue to think and act as if they know better than we who are in the know. This is the crux of the problem. This is what we're up against. Most of the anti-gunners know nothing of any conspiracy -- they're simply ignorant, and arrogant.
What's important is that we who're leading the fight against this remember WHY they're ignorant, how their own lives and positions of authority have usurped their powers of observation and sound judgement to the point where the Brady Bunch and their affiliates are able to get a word in edgewise in the first place.
Furthermore, just because we scored a victory this March, this isn't over: "The Brady Campaign are currently demanding that faculty, students and parents urge officials to act in reversing the “dangerous” law and have pledged to assist Colorado University in keeping young people “safe from guns”."
The crux of the issue is this: Those who're in positions of authority over us are often insulated, arrogant, and idealistic. THAT's what we face. We have two solutions: Fight them head-on, breaking through their insulation, taking them down a notch, and educating them out of their idealism. Unfortunately, that requires a great deal of time and effort. The second solution is simpler: Replace them. Give them the boot! Find someone better, someone who understands and respects our Constitution to take their seat. Interestingly enough, this strategy works well at the Federal level, too.
I'll close with the author's own statement: "The University of Colorado has some nerve thinking they can make up their own rules, force those rules on us, ignore the General Assembly, by pass state laws, turn their backs on the constitution, and believe they can get away with it; they really, really are one group of arrogant gun haters."
