Traveling Interstate from Texas to Las Vegas

I am planning to ride my motorcycle from my home in Texas to Las Vegas. I will be going through New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. I am licensed for concealed carry here in Texas but I'm not sure when I should switch from concealed to open carry for the other states. Also, my bike has no saddle bags so how will that effect my ability to store the weapon in a separate compartment (ie glove box) like automobile drivers sometimes have to?

Finally, once I arrive in Las Vegas I'll be staying at the Venetian and moving up and down the strip to various casinos. Does anyone have experience with the Strip casinos, their private security, and local LEO on weapon carry? I don't mind checking my weapon while on the casino floor but I'm hesitant to carry my gambling bankroll walking down the Strip with my weapon locked in a hotel room safe...

Thanks for the help!

You are good to go in both NM and AZ afa riding with it concealed. Your license is good here in NM and in AZ you don't need one to carry concealed.

Read up on the applicable sections at handgunlaw.us regarding NV. They say: "Nevada law is silent on carrying unconcealed firearms in vehicles. They do have a law against carrying loaded long guns in vehicles. But no law against handguns."

That being said, regarding your question about lack of saddlebags- do you have some form of luggage, like a bag or duffel that you will have with you? If you have a locked container in a bag, that will serve the same purpose- as long as it's inaccessible to you and secured.

I would not open carry in LV. Just keep up your situational awareness and be careful.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about that. I will be carrying a back pack. I guess if I have a suitcase lock on the zipper bag for the pistol that would have to be considered a locked container...

One day maybe we can get some kind of consistency in the laws so those of us that have proven ourselves responsible citizens won't have to become lawyers just to exercise our rights...

One other thing- slightly off-topic.

Doing your trip all-interstate through NM and AZ on a bike is borderline criminal. If it's possible for you to do it, you should see some of the fine roads and scenery. I took a really nice ride from Santa Fe to Vegas a couple of years ago and it was a nice relaxing 2-day ride. If you want, pm me and I can give you the route or other recommendations from your starting point.
