Traveling Interstate from Texas to Las Vegas

I am planning to ride my motorcycle from my home in Texas to Las Vegas. I will be going through New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. I am licensed for concealed carry here in Texas but I'm not sure when I should switch from concealed to open carry for the other states. Also, my bike has no saddle bags so how will that effect my ability to store the weapon in a separate compartment (ie glove box) like automobile drivers sometimes have to?

Finally, once I arrive in Las Vegas I'll be staying at the Venetian and moving up and down the strip to various casinos. Does anyone have experience with the Strip casinos, their private security, and local LEO on weapon carry? I don't mind checking my weapon while on the casino floor but I'm hesitant to carry my gambling bankroll walking down the Strip with my weapon locked in a hotel room safe...

Thanks for the help!

As soon as you are beyond the Texas state line you can switch to OC. NM says a vehicle is an extension in your home so you can CC or OC, Arizona is Constitutional Carry so no permit is required for CC (21+) or OC, and Nevada allows OC in a vehicle without a permit - NV does NOT recognize a TX permit. You can carry in a vehicle in NV as long as the firearm is not concealed on your person. (Just be careful in NLV if you are going that far north).

Note on New Mexico: Do NOT open carry in ANY establishment that has alcohol -- including gas stations and convenient stores. You can only carry concealed in establishments that have alcohol for off premises consumption (wal-marts, gas stations, etc.) and you must have a valid permit recognized in NM.

I have had experience in Laughlin casinos, not LV. Signage may or may not be posted but the casinos on both strips are known to not allow firearms. However, you may get lucky and security may not bother you. If there is signage however, heed it. Security actually thanked me for carrying since they don't have any ability to protect themselves -- they only told me to put it away because a CA dimwit ratted on me while I was OCing in a casino restaurant. If there is no signage I would simply keep the firearm in your hotel room. Carry on the street is NV state law obviously. I would post this in the Nevada sub forum. I strongly advise not carrying while gambling.

I am not a lawyer. The Nevada sub forum has a good pamphlet about what is legal in regards to carry in Nevada.

Thanks acmariner99, I went ahead and posted in all 3 states just to see what I could learn from the locals in each.

I was not aware that my Texas CC did not extend to NV, it must be one of the few gun-friendly states that doesn't recognize our license.

Here's hoping that one day it will all be a moot point when politicians realize that citizens shouldn't have to become lawyers to exercise their constitutional rights...
