Traveling Interstate from Texas to Las Vegas

I am planning to ride my motorcycle from my home in Texas to Las Vegas. I will be going through New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. I am licensed for concealed carry here in Texas but I'm not sure when I should switch from concealed to open carry for the other states. Also, my bike has no saddle bags so how will that effect my ability to store the weapon in a separate compartment (ie glove box) like automobile drivers sometimes have to?

Finally, once I arrive in Las Vegas I'll be staying at the Venetian and moving up and down the strip to various casinos. Does anyone have experience with the Strip casinos, their private security, and local LEO on weapon carry? I don't mind checking my weapon while on the casino floor but I'm hesitant to carry my gambling bankroll walking down the Strip with my weapon locked in a hotel room safe...

Thanks for the help!

Well... this is an interesting post... to me anyway. You see, my wife is currently on her motorcycle and on her way to San Antonio. She left home (southern Utah) yesterday and is somewhere just west of Roswell NM at this point. She too was interested in the laws of Arizona, NM, and Texas, because she's an avid open carrier... and she has her sidearm strapped to her hip on her motorcycle right now.

So... once you get out of Texas, your pretty much "home free" to open carry. NM, Arizona, and Nevada are all on-board with open carry. So is Utah if you want to take a "little trip" up that way when you're in the southern NV area.

While open carrying on the LV Strip is okay as well (LV metro has been "acclimated" to those who do), you'll find it very "difficult" to be "allowed" to OC inside any of the casinos. Most casino security will ask you to "leave" and if you don't they'll play the "trespass card." As far as "checking" your firearm with casino security and then reclaiming it on your way out of the casino... I'm not sure about that. Maybe somebody else here (DON'T TREAD ON ME comes to mind) will have better info on that and other stuff about OC on the strip.

I would say just CC in the casinos but alas Texas permits are not honored in Nevada.

Thanks for the help usmcmustang. I've got a few weeks before I head that way and have gotten some good tips so far. One of the guys on the New Mexico board reminded me that once my pistol is suitcase locked in the zipper bag and stuffed in my backpack I have a separate locked container for it...

Make sure your lovely bride rides safe especially tomorrow when she heads through my neck of the woods. I'm a firefighter/paramedic here in Odessa and we have had way to many highway accidents here recently. I blame a lot of it on our economy booming and putting a lot of brand new, fresh out of driving academy truckers on the road!

Thanks again for the tips, you guys have been really helpful!
