The violence in northern Nigeria is mistakenly viewed as a religious conflict rather than simply a tribal dispute over land, according to the Obama administration.

Despite the ongoing Muslim destruction of churches and the slaughter of Christians – including many murdered during worship services – the U.S. Agency for International Development claims that the misunderstandings make it difficult to administer aid programs.

USAID, therefore, has launched a program titled Project PEACE – an acronym for Programming Effectively Against Conflict and Extremism.

PEACE says it will hire contractors to help the agency analyze the “true” causes of conflict and consequently provide more effective humanitarian and conflict-resolution assistance, according to planning documents that WND located via database research.

Your point is well-made. Human beings have, since the beginning of time, killed one another with little provocation, and they will continue do so until they eradicate the human race (the last man standing will then probably commit suicide due to loneliness and depression). If we are not killing over differing religious beliefs, we will always find something that will "justify" (at least to ourselves) our actions - land, minerals, accents, fishing rights, the color of our neighbor's skin, the belief that another country is developing advanced weapons systems, etc.

The majority of the "Mormon Wars" would be more appropriately named 'Wars Brought Upon Mormons'. In the 1800s, Mormonism was not viewed as a "Christian religion", partly because it was started by:
a. a man (as were all religions)
b. a man many people believed to be a charlatan (and there is some [if not particularly overwhelming] evidence to support those beliefs)

and partly because:
c. the Mormons somewhat nontraditional belief system and worship services (although based in belief in Christ, the Book of Mormon diverges in some minor ways from the teachings of the Old Testament and the New Testament)
d. Mormons believed in and practiced polygamy (perhaps it was envy by, or jealousy from, the good "Christian" folk. It was an expression of the Mormons unique belief system, and I see nothing in the practice worth killing another human being over. The LDS Church, in order to achieve statehood (not because they thought polygamy was wrong), banned polygamy in 1890. The ban remains in-place among mainstream LDS members today, although some offshoot branches of the church have continued the practice.

Without going on and on about the LDS church, it's members and it's practices, let me just say this... after having been persecuted and deprived of their homes and Constitutional rights, and having been driven from city to city, and state to state, is it any wonder the LDS faithful became suspicious and distrustful of the "gentiles"? Thus the formation of the "Armies of Israel", better known as "Danites", which group has been described as everything from the bodyguards of J. Smith, to a vigilante group, to a Mormon Militia. Within the confines of the LDS they were essentially "enforcers" of the edicts of the Church Presidency. (Orrin) Porter Rockwell was known as the Mormon's "Avenging Angel", and his name has been loosely associated with the Danites. He was (what we might call in today's jargon) the "utility player".

The majority of the battles involving Mormons in the 1800s were initiated by locals who were non-Mormons and anti-Mormons. A lack of understanding, and rumors and outright lies, about the Mormons created the atmosphere of fierce anger and unbridled hostility toward them. The only definable and unjustifiable hostile act initiated by the Mormons, was the infamous Mountain Meadows Massacre in September of 1857. Pax...

Other facts about th LDS Church

There was a government issued extermination order in Missouri. Few were killed because of it, but it was there nonetheless.

the members of the church were chased out of at least 2 cities that they started from the ground up, including Kirtland OH and Nauvoo, IL, the sites of the first 2 LDS temples. Nauvoo was built in a reclaimed swamp where no one else wanted to settle. The inhabitants were chased out in the middle of the winter with only what they could carry.

In spite of the occurrences, when the US government needed military troops, there were many volunteers from the church, more than once. It just shows how much we love and respect our country, to not have turned against it after that. Just a little food for thought, keep it in mind when you think about the presidential candidates. Think of which cares more for this country, and will work harder to preserve it.

Important thing to consider; you can't judge an entire religion based on the actions of their extremists. Not all Christians spout the "god hates *insert perjorative noun/nation*" that the WBC spits out. Not all Muslims are terrorists. So we can't just point to their terrorists to knock their perceived moral high ground in politics. We have to examine the things that are universally constant with Muslims in order to fairly and effectively get them from their ADL-style position of being immune to criticism. I personally don't think they Islam is less than any other religion. But, look at their holy texts, morals, ideals, history, and philosophies. There's more than just terrorism if you want to knock Islam. There's a hell of a lot wrong with most facets of their belief system and culture. Things that apply to the actual faith, and can't be shot down with the "you're just a bigot/paranoid lunatic" arguments than some CAIR guys will throw at you.

I do not believe in supernatural beings. I also believe you have the right to believe anything you want.

These people are just a$$holes using religion, race and natonality as excuses.

I won't ask what your religion is, because I don't care. I DO fully support your right to believe as you see fit.

I also fully support any Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Bahai, Jain, Buddist, Sikh, Kurd, Shintoist, Cao Dai, Unitarian, Hare Krishna, Scientologist, Pastafarian (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster) or believer of any other faith, or any variety of those faiths, to believe that THEIR religion is the best.

A full 10% (many believe it to be an conserve number) or 120,000,000 fully believe in Jihad, Dhimmi, Sharia law, and only believe world peace can occur when the world is Islam, but here is the kicker not Sunni or Shiite but just one of the two....

So it is off a bombing, murdering, and living like it is 700 AD yet another day they all go....
