Does anyone here know if it is illegal to carry a firearm to a high school graduation ceremony? It's at the Frankfort convention center, which is not school property but it is a school event so I wasn't completely sure.

I think so. KRS 527.70 says

(1) A person is guilty of unlawful possession of a weapon on school property when he knowingly deposits, possesses, or carries, whether openly or concealed [...], any firearm [...] on any property used, or operated by any board of education, school, board of trustees, regents, or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution.

I believe it would be illegal. The building is being used exclusively by the school, therefore the law would apply. Now if it was a class trip to the zoo or a field trip to the local theater I would think you would be ok. The school wouldn't have exclusive control over these places, they would be visiting with the rest of the general public to an event that is not under control of the school board.
