TN laws regarding home defense???

Folks, my daughter live in the greater Nashville area and needs to know the skinny regarding home defense. I figure y'all could--quickly--answer the question of whether it's legal for her to have a handgun in her residence without a carry permit. Can she use a handgun, or does she have to have a shotgun without a carry permit?

A carry permit is just that, a permit to CARRY. It has nothing to do with having a handgun on your private property.
