Ok where can I shoot outside in a safe area away from people in this state?

All the shooting I have done in Colorado has been in the Roosevelt national forest out past Nederland. As far as I know it is LEGAL to shoot in any national forest here as long as you are 150 YARDS from any building, parking lot, or trail.

And have an earthen backstop. I.e. "Well, there's plenty of them trees to stop anything from going too far" won't cut it.

The few times I have seen it done the boyfriends just laughed along with it. I have a good idea of what was on their mind instead of the unsafe situation they were in.

Yeah, no. How hard up were they? I've taken plenty of opportunity of double-entendre coaching instructions and consensual excuses to "correct their stance" and have never been with a dingbat that would allow banter to devolve into that crap.

That's good. Being swept by one of these said dingbats with a gun you know is loaded is a frightening experience.

An example of a dumb uninstructed girl at an indoor range and why I would rather shoot in the woods by myself.

WTF??? They were KNOWN to be loaded?? I had imagined them screwing around with an empty gun that the bf had given them to load. I couldn't fathom someone THAT stupid. Not to put you on the spot, but why on the gods' green earth did you not have the RO toss the hormone riddled morons?

Also an example of why I stay very close to first time shooters I'm teaching. One gf said something about being nervous and I heard her voice escalating. I immediately reached across and grabbed the revolver behind the hammer and asked her if she was okay. She kept the weapon down range and said she just needed to take a breath.

BTW, I don't think the woman ND'd in the video. I think the cameraman lowered his camera WTFing to get the weapon under control.

RO already was on it each time this happened. I did tell one group to watch there muzzle but they were escorted out shortly there after for sweeping another guy who was about as pissed as I was. I knew them to be loaded because I watched the boyfriend insert mag and rack the slide then set it down only to have his girlfriend pick it up and start her adorable routine of sweeping him back and forth while making those pew pew noises I mentioned earlier. This is not as uncommon as you might think. What I find to be just as bad as this is the guys and gals who are so focused on what they are doing they do not even realize a gun is being pointed at them. Though they are being safe they do not see the dangers around them. Keep your head on a swivel.

Ah. I'd say, "Oh, good," but it's really small consolation that these people exist.

Nice thing about Grand Junction, we have BLM land just outside of town, butting up against this natural backstop called the Bookcliff Mountains, a pretty much sheer 1,000+ foot cliff face. Anyone wants to come and shoot give a shout (will have to forgo any cooking, under severe fire restrictions)

Well guys I appreciate all the invitations to come shoot on your property. Very nice gestures! You guys are just too far away from me and with a 5.9 liter V8 truck it is not economical to make the drives. This is tough as my girlfriend needs to practice as she wants to get her ccw but I can not take her to these public ranges. The safety issues are just too great and I refuse to put her in harms way. I might sound paranoid but I'm not willing to take a chance with my future wife's safety or my own. I am going to see if there are any places near Idaho springs that we can safely shoot at. It amazes me that Colorado is so much bigger than Maryland my home state where finding a place to shoot is fairly easy yet finding places to shoot in Colorado is a huge chore. Again thank you to those who offered to let me shoot on your property. I wouldn't mind buying most folks on this forum a beer. Great group of guys and gals :)
