Hey Guys, so glad to be a part of this site. I feel as though I have some potential friends here. So here is my first question:

I recently moved to Henderson, Kentucky and have run into this local ordinance. (copy and paste) 8.98.030 - Concealable weapons to be registered.

It is unlawful for any person to own or have in his possession a gun, pistol, revolver or other firearm capable of being concealed without first having registered it with the chief of police.

Is this a legal ordinance?

Thanks guys; Don J

BTW this is their definition of a "concealable weapon"

8.98.050 - Concealable weapon defined.
For the purposes of this chapter, a weapon capable of being concealed is defined as any gun or firearm with a barrel whose length is 14 inches or less or whose overall length is 18 inches or less.

This ordinance is for the city of Henderson, Nevada not Henderson, Ky. As far as I know they can require you get a "blue card" for a firearm in Nevada. Granted I haven't researched the laws there throughly as I have no intention of going there anytime in the near future. However, I did take the time to glance through the ordinances of Henderson, Ky in the usual places you'd see such a thing. The only thing I saw remotely suspect to being against our preemption was in 16-4, but they define nonregulated firearm as one that shoots projectiles from compressed air and not an explosion. I'd have to take a few minutes to research into the definition of a ky firearm, but I'm fairly certain I recall them defining it as a projectile from an explosion which would make their ordinances legal under our preemption. I will submit that they perhaps worded it in such a way as to try and trip up a citizen not as informed as they should be on Ky statues.

I'm from Henderson also. I always want to OC, but never do because the attention it may cause, but I do keep my pistol in my glove box. I wish more people did OC an wish there was OC get togethers around here.
