My name is Chris and i have been concealed carrying for a bit now but what i really want to do is start to open carry. I know it's best to have all the laws memorized and be able to list them off if confronted but i know that just won't happen with me. Does anyone have something like a small "handbook" that i could look over and do my best to memorize them in my spare time, but more importantly always carry with me while i open carry? I live in Middleton ID and i have been pulled over while concealed carrying and all i had to say (thankfully) is i am carrying and she just asked for my name, registration, if i had a valid license and permit to carry, and where the weapon was exactly and i simply said i do. She went back to her car and (every time she came up to my care i put my hands out the window so she could clearly see them like my uncle had suggested as he works for the Emmett police dept.) ran my info, came back and said thanks for what i did and told me to slow down. That could have just as easily went the complete opposite way which i actually expect to happen while open carrying. I have a few law enforcement friends and family that tell me how to act and what to do but i want to be more prepared with being able to actually have the laws to state ready for when it's needed.

Check out the Idahoopencarry.org website also. I have some of the Idaho phamplets. you are welcome to some of them. I'll be gone this weekend. Perhaps we could meet at starbucks in Nampa some evening next week.

That is a possibility :) I am sick right now so i don't want to meet with anyone while i am sick but I have some family that also want to open carry and they need a lot more than i do. They have no idea about the issues that can/do come up while open carrying. let me know when you are not busy and we will see if we can meet up! and thanks for the info

May I ask you why you chose to reveal that you were carrying? ID is not a "must inform" state,

May I suggest, next time, even if you are OC, don't say anything unless asked. If you are armed or not is totally irrelevant to a traffic stop. I have OC'd since July 1970...never been asked, never volunteered.
