KVCC handbook Failure to Comply

So I'm looking to go back too school and i was looking through the KVCC handbook to see how the possesion of weapons was worded which I found on page 22 and then sub. sec. U) cought my eye

T. Weapons, Explosives and Fireworks: No student shall possess, use, or threaten to use weapons or explosives on any college-owned or college-operated property or at a college-sponsored activity except as specifically authorized in writing by appropriate Kalamazoo Valley officials.

U. Failure to Comply: No student shall fail to comply with college officials or security officers in the performance of their duties, nor fail to identify oneself when requested to do so.

The bold is kinda what I got hung up on, I'm not sure if that means just "Yes my name is Ryan Adams and I am a current student" Or if they mean a *stop and ID* type of situation and if so is this a legal action? I suppose that I assume so givin colleges can basically make up any rule they would like to enforce in most cases.

PS I liked all these parts in here that talked about student respecting school and other property, respecting the LAW, and other peoples individual RIGHTS

•Each student has the right to expect that every other member of the college community will be aware of this, and will respect his/her own individual rights. Each right that an individual has, however, places upon him/her certain responsibilities. The student has a deep responsibility to fellow members of the Kalamazoo Valley academic community. The most important of those responsibilities is non-interference with the rights of others and with the essential purposes and processes of the college. Each student has a personal responsibility to maintain respect for properly constituted authority. Each student should show respect and regard for the preservation of property belonging to others. The student, too, has the personal responsibility for the development of maturity, the strengthening of self-discipline, and discretion in making individual decisions.

As a student at Kalamazoo Valley, you are a member of both the academic community and a democratic society. You are entitled to the same rights and responsibilities as other citizens, including freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, and the right of petition. (just not the one about guns)

It is Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s intent to provide a learning environment that fosters the respect and dignity of each person. To this end, Kalamazoo Valley is committed to maintaining a working environment free of unlawful discrimination, harassment, or intimidation based upon a person’s race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, weight, height, marital status, veteran status, disability, or any characteristic protected by law. (So being a gun owner or carrying a gun isn't a characteristic protected by law?)

CONCLUSION
If any provision or application of this handbook is found contrary to the law, such provision or application shall not be deemed valid and subsisting, except to the extent permitted by law, but all other provisions or applications shall continue in full-force effect. Additional information and details about topics addressed in this handbook, as well as more information about college programs, departments, curriculums, facilities, and services, are available on the Kalamazoo Valley web page (soooo....)

Escort security services are available for students days/evenings and weekends by request on the Texas Township Campus. Contact Kalamazoo Valley Public Safety for arrangements at 269.***.****. (maybe I'll see how long it takes for security escorting me everywhere for it to get old)

The cliff note version -
If you sign the admission papers to attend, we own your a$$ & you will comply or we will boot your a$$ & keep your tuition chump!

Not right but folks I personally know have run into this in MI.

Giving up civil rights for security is a certain way to lose both!

KVCC is located within Texas Township, and the ordinances of Texas Township apply to citizens on KVCC 'property'. I fought, and won, a fight against an ordinance criminalizing the transportation and possession of a firearm at Texas Township Parks.

That said, if you want to go to KVCC, you must agree to their policies. There's not much they can do to me (maybe trespass) as a citizen at KVCC (tennis courts, basketball courts etc) in possession of a firearm, but as a student they could suspend/expel me...

IMHO IANAL

It's time someone challenge colleges for this antigun nonsense.

Save a copy of the handbook.
Download a PDF of it, and save any HTML versions of it you can.
Make note of the contradictory, and hypocritical portions, and there statement about honoring civil rights.

Try to sign up for classes, but refuse to sign on to their rules on the grounds that they violate your civil rights, they will refuse to accept you as a student. Get this conversation on video, or audio. Save any written rejections.

Sue them for discrimination, and civil rights (constitutional) violations.

I wish I had the time for a route like this but It's something I need to get started on right away, however I do plan on putting something together and trying to challenge the nonsense. Even if they laugh I can say I tried. I figure it's about the same anywhere, sign up and we own you
