So a couple times in different threads I have read about some Hooters being anti. Well since BBW is outspokenly anti, I actually do like Hooters wings, and haven't really found a good wing spot. My wife and I decided to test the waters at our local Hooters near Oceana.
First thing I noticed was not a no guns sign, but rather a sign stating that the location was not a franchise and that it was independently owned. So we were seated and had a great meal with no incident. I couldn't get the non-franchise location thought out of my head. So I decided to speak with the manager since the owner was not there at the time. I asked about the difference between being a independent location vs a franchise. It was explained to me that basically they had keep the Hooters look, and menu. Other than that, for the most part, they have freedom on the other aspects of the restaurant.
So I went on to explain why I was asking (some locations indicating anti and some not). Now I know some of you may not agree with this tactic seeing as how this location doesn't take an openly anti stance, and the inquiry could cause them to take an anti stance. The way I figured it, since it is already a grey area for some locations if they were to express an anti stance they could at least clear it up. Thankfully it didn't go that way, not yet at least. The conversation went well, he asked what I was carrying. He stated that he owned a Glock, IIRC. He seamed confused as to why the other locations took a negative stance on OC. He stated that he didn't know for sure the stance that the owners take on OC in the restaurant, but he said he didn't have a problem with it.
So, given how well the conversation went, I asked if he/the owners would be open to hosting an OC dinner. He stated that he would want check with the owners on their stance on allowing firearms in the restaurant before giving the ok. I explained the professionalism that everyone portrays, and that when we have them we have an unspoken rule of no alcohol. I mentioned it to ease any concerning thoughts they might have about scaring their customers. Also that our general turn out is between 15 - 25 people. I left the manager with my e-mail address and asked that he or the owners get back to me good news or bad.
In closing I was wondering how you guys/gals would feel about having a dinner at an independently owned Hooters? If the response is good from both here and the owners I will pick a date and time. At this time I am just awaiting a response.
