Obama would try to find ways to work around the "stalemate" in Congress

    snip-

The White House signaled Thursday that President Barack Obama would not be seeking new gun control laws in the aftermath of the mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. But press secretary Jay Carney said Obama would try to find ways to work around the "stalemate" in Congress to keep firearms out of the wrong hands

Yea right. He has made his stance on the matter known when he was a Senator in Illinois. He said AKs belong in the hands of "soldiers" and not criminals. If he supported our right he would have said law-abiding citizens, not soldiers. When he said they belonged in the hands of soldiers, he means soldiers are the only ones who should have the right to possess such arms. It would be Political suicide to come out 3 months before an election and say you wanted more Gun control. But he has said it, just not where mainstream can hear. A guy in another thread said that the majority would not support our right to openly carry a Long gun, but he forgets that there are 100,000,000 confessed firearm owners. Let's add the people who live in a house with a firearm, and that number would go up significantly. We can also add to this the number of people who have recently returned to a libertarian stance, and I believe the majority would support our right to carry a Long gun just because it is a right that the government is not supposed to take away. The modern day government wants to control every aspect of our life. When Obama said we don't do anything on our own, that someone else (government) has done it for us, everyone should have opened their eyes, and a great deal of people have. Our current administration wants to turn this country into a Totalitarian Socialist state just like North Korea, and I for one will not allow that to happen. Don't take me wrong, I hated George W. Bush and H.W. just as much, and Clinton as well. Reagan was the last decent President we had, but when he had an attempt on his life 60 some days into office, he realized who was in control. The man who attempted to kill him was a close relative of a friend of George H. W. Bush, his own Vice president! Imagine that! We need to wake up as a nation and look at the big picture. We have Soros, Kissinger, Rothschild, and others coming out and saying they are in the final stages of their New World Order, and a one World government! The second Revolution is around the corner, and we need to be prepared for that! Our Founding fathers would be very dissapointed in what we have allowed to happen to the country they fought so hard to establish, and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

By upsiding "soldiers" and downsiding "criminals," he was also stating what he thought of citizens who carry firearms: criminals.

Agreed. We had "Tricky Dick," the "Slick Willy." Now we have "Teflonobama." He's committed several high crimes and misdemeanors worthy of impeachment, yet he remains unimpeached. If Republicans held both the House and Senate by a decent margin, he'd have been kicked out long ago.

A guy in another thread said that the majority would not support our right to openly carry a Long gun...
We need to quietly remind The People that the term "firearms" as used in the Second Amendment apply equally to, and make no distinction between, long guns and handguns.

but he forgets that there are 100,000,000 confessed firearm owners. Let's add the people who live in a house with a firearm, and that number would go up significantly.
I think the current rate is 53% of all households have a firearm. That was the 2010 census, though, and with Obama in office, no doubt that number has increased somewhat.

We can also add to this the number of people who have recently returned to a libertarian stance, and I believe the majority would support our right to carry a Long gun just because it is a right that the government is not supposed to take away.
    Agreed!

    Agreed! Neither will I.

    Per the OP link:
Asked about reporting that suggests that the Colorado shooter violated no laws, and how even tighter background checks would prevent a similar tragedy in the future, Carney replied: "I don't think the President ever suggested that the background check can stop every crime from occurring in America, even one as heinous as this."

"But we do need to take a broader look at what we can do to reduce violence in America," he said. "And it requires a multi-faceted approach that looks at this problem from a variety of angles, and that's not just legislative and it's not just about gun laws."
So, the White House is acknowledging that Legislation, and Firearm Laws are not the only only solution. I wonder if they are speaking to Economic factors, Cultural factors.
I don't mind watching the OC-Community (tea party 2.0's, who have hijacked the OC-Community) cannibalize itself. I do mind watching OC dragged through the gutter. OC is an exercise of A Right. I choose to not OC; I choose to not own firearms. I choose to leave the OC-Community to it's own self-inflicted injuries, and eventual implosion. Carry on...
