Will be PCSing to VA end of the year

Would someone give me some links, etc. to VA carry laws. I currently have a TX CHL (will become a non-resident) when I move. Also have a PA non-resident LTCF. Need the skinny on OC (I do in PA all the time, of course illegal in TX), CC and licensing. Thanks in advance and I look forward to the move and attending an OC event in the Newport News area of VA.

    Bryan,

Welcome, in advance, to Virginia. Start at http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/sh...n-Cards-STICKY for some basic info.

OC is legal because there are no laws saying anything about it. CC should be covered but if you have specific questions feel free to ask. Just remember - we like folks to provide citations when spouting off about what is or is not legal, so make sure you check the backup material so you can understand it yourself. Your TX papers will probably be good until they expire at which point you will need to show it or your militaty ID card when you apply for your VA resident permit. Your PA papers are good as long as you keep them current.

What is this "licensing" you write of? OK, the Commonwealth insists you register your automobile with them within 60 days of moving here - see here http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/ci...vehiclereg.asp for the dirty details. IIRC PCS no longer qualifies to keep your old registration and DL but you should call and ask for specific documentation from DMV on that.

Once you get here announce yourself and see if anybody will set up a welcome meet&greet event in NN. Since most of the folks out that way have manners I'm confident they will.

    stay safe.

You may also find these links useful: http://www.vcdl.org/static/ccw.html and http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/virginia.pdf

Also consider joining the VCDL, or at least signing up for VA-ALERT ("In an effort to keep all activists informed of the latest information regarding the right to keep and bear arms in the Commonwealth of Virginia, VCDL operates a free Internet mailing list called VA-ALERT. Unless the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act has been changed, you may keep your drivers license and tags in either your home of record or Virginia. Virginia's DMV rules cannot overrule federal law. Also, if you are going to be stationed at Langley make sure that you get a briefing on VA's personal property tax relative to your cars.

Welcome to VA and thanks for your service.

    What, ANOTHER Wing Waxer???????

OMG what is next, Sewer-pipe Sailors?????

LOL Just kidding. Welcome. I believe you will enjoy your time in Virginia where they don't restrict gun owners like they do in Texas. The folks here are a wealth of information and the weekly and monthly breakfast and dinner meetings are always enjoyable.

I think it will be nice to have another AF vet on board. (29170, 49170, 36254) You will find that there are some members with a bit of sarcasm in their posts, (Don't worry Skid, I will not tell him it is you) but the knowledge they share is more than worth a little kidding.

I'll make you an offer: I will argue and fight for all of your rights, if you will do the same for me. That is the only way freedom can work. We have to respect all rights, all the time--and strive to win the rights of the other guy as much as for ourselves.

If I am equal to another, how can I legitimately govern him without his express individual consent?

There is no human being on earth I hate so much I would actually vote to inflict government upon him.

    OC Adventures

Well, been here since Sunday so I thought it appropriate to give a little OC log.

OC'd at the McDonalds off 95 just on this side of the Virginia state line. OC'd around Hampton and Norfolk although I was tempted to cover up some areas of Norfolk. We have been all over house hunting. Anyone know of a descent 4 bedroom in commuting distance to Langley AFB.... Will start an OC log to document my adventures. Once I have a place off base I will be doing it way more often...

Lived in NN for almost 4 years now. Might I suggest checking out Kiln Creek? Nice area (though near an airport), with a lot of nice houses.

It's about 20 minutes from Langley (I know because I used to intern on the base), and Google Maps confirms this:
    https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&s...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

I assume you're looking to rent a home? Doing a quick Google search of "Kiln Creek Homes for Rent" yielded this:
    http://www.homes.com/rentals/VA/City...WS/KILN_CREEK/

Furthurmore, from this website, here are the 4 bedroom homes for rent in Kiln Creek:
Price - Beds/Baths - Sq. Feet (of home) - link
    $1650 - 4b/2.5b - 2080 - http://www.homes.com/listing/1720100..._NEWS_VA_23602
    $1795 - 4b/2.5b - 2500 - http://www.homes.com/listing/1738888..._NEWS_VA_23602
    $1800 - 4b/2.5b - 2440 - http://www.homes.com/listing/1738291..._NEWS_VA_23602

    Hope this helps!

Welcome to VA...And my family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for you service, we pray you and your family good health. Best advice I can give you is listen to the people on this site, you will not find a better place to obtain all the knowledge you want in regards to VA gun laws. Like another said you will see a lot of teasing, some of it can get pretty harsh, but what you will learn in priceless. I am actually totally shocked that when ED told you to send him a S.A.S.E. (by the way that info is on the bottom of all his posts), he did not tell you to make sure you have a digital voice recorder at all times. Agian, welcome, and thank you for your service.

Been a mbr here for a while so I am well aware of the wealth of info. I was previously stationed in Texas and unfortunately deployed during most of the 2009 session, so I missed most of the effort there but I'm glad to be here and able to OC, I did it whenever I was in Pa.... I have this awesome app on my phone and I'm not afraid to use it... Actually saved my bacon with regards to a few Inspector General complaints I filed against my old unit before PCSing. I love 1 party consent laws, but my old CC and CCF (First Sergeant) don't.... Lol
