where are we at with open carry now?

just curious as to where we stand now. i signed the petition a long time ago and now i see that failed. what all options do we have? can a petition put it straight on a ballot, or do we have to depend on our elected officials to make it happen? Is someone gonna have to deliberately get arrested for open carry and take it all the way to the supreme court? just wondering if anyone here had more legal experience or knew what was going on atm. I live near the LA border and i OC'd my first time today when we went to buy some clothes for the kiddos. just wish i had that option everyday!
