    Seattle/King County OC Report

I looked back 5 pages, South Sound is not supposed to cover Seattle, East Sound does not cover Seattle, and Snohomish does not cover Seattle.

So I will start a Seattle thread.

OC'd at Pike Place Market yesterday Saturday. Pleasant trip, had a few people ask about OC most thought you needed a 'permit' and I told them that there is no permit required to Open Carry in Washington UNLESS you're carrying loaded in to a vehicle.

Had a couple of people ask me if I was carrying a GLOCK, I told them that yes it is.

Since I am not looking for shock value I did not look for people's reactions/faces I did notice a few because I was moving through a crowd and had to look at faces. No police encounters which was nice.

One guy thanked me for Openly Carrying.

    Drop leg/thigh holster.

Looking for a new more durable shoulder rig though.

I was also downtown yesterday along the waterfront.

Rode the new carousel with no issues, kind of a cool vantage point from along the waterfront. ($15 per person)
Wondered through the tourist stores along the waterfront with friends, stopped and with one of the 1st nation wood carvers and bought a mini totem from him. Had him explain the features and story of his totem. I have seen this particular carver down their for years and have always stopped to say hello, he is very kind and it always reminds me of John T. Williams.

I seldom go downtown, however I too did a little OC in downtown yesterday. Had my Taurus Millenium Pro in my OWB holster on the right side.

I was headed to an event in Fremont, (Where I CC'd by choice), but for the trip down and back... OC all the way.

Grabbed the Sound Transit 510 out of Everett Station, got off the bus Downtown in near Westlake Park, walked down to Third Avenue to catch the Metro to Fremont. Got a good wiff of Hempfest on that walk . Same thing on the way home but I got off the metro to early and had to walk quite a bit further thru downtown, still not a word from anyone.

Not a word from anyone, however for some reason no one sat next to me on VERY crowded Down Town Metro

I've noticed the same thing when I OC on the transit buses.

I don't think he is complaining. It's nice to not have to snuggle with a stranger on a bus.

I don't go to seattle often but when i do.............

This is great. I have been curious as to how OC is going in the city.

OC-ed along the waterfront and into Ivars on my bday last month. Was eye raped by a large family. No manners. Crappy service too!

OC on the motorcycle around the city too...don't stick around long enough to find out what may happen.

Been harassed by the police? Yelled at by the anti-gun neighbors? Mother doesn't approve?

I figured as much just thought I would throw in some humour. Sitting next to someone that smells like they havnt seen a shower in this millennium let alone used one is always a great way to start the day.

    Supreme Court!

That's right, I carried to the Supreme Court tonight! Oh, ok... it was a Mariner's game celebrating King Felix...34,000 yellow shirts! Pretty Cool.

I was CC as usual SafeCo Field with no issues! They only do a cursory look through purses and backpacks.

I did see Tim Eyman at the game as well as Macklemore!

p.s. I had a beer with my burger and fries! That makes me 'incredibly stupid', just sayin'

Oh no you had a beer with your burger while carrying a gun?

You're super scary. Should have been a man with gun drinking a beer call. After all as soon as you have even 1 beer you're dangerous.

Was contacted by 3-4 Seattle Police Officers today while shopping around Pike Place Market.

I was in a cooking supply store checking out the latest and greatest widgets and was suddenly being talked to by 1 cop who had 2-3 others with him. I was calm, relaxed, and still annoyed. They told me someone had called about me I told them that I had not been handling my firearm and so there was no issue to investigate. They talked amongst themselves and then told me that it seems like I know the open carry laws and that what I was doing was legal unless I was a felon. Are you a felon? No.

I decided to ask them about what they thought of one of the cooking pans that was within easy reach. One told me he had never used it and so I started asking the others with him. They became a little irritated by that and left.

There are some nifty new widgets out there for those of us who cook. Nothing I couldn't live out buying though.

No problems the rest of the time.

Did you notice the waterfront still has the illegal "no firearms" signs? I'm wondering if the city will ever get rid of them. They finally replaced the pioneer square ones, so I'm hoping it's just a slow process (though it annoys me that they quickly spent the money to erect illegal signs, but can't be bothered to amend them).

One sign had been blacked out by a sharpie, the other signs were still in place.

My friend and I did OC around Pike Place Market without any problems.

We even saw a few cops in cars none stopped and said anything.

FWIW Seattle Center claims special rights over firearms if you read their policy at http://seattlecenter.com/about/rules.aspx

"4. Weapons. It is Prohibited To....
Carry concealed or unconcealed on his or her person any dangerous knife unless used as a tool for work by Seattle Center employees or their authorized agents, or carry concealed on his or her person any weapon. Seattle Center employees are subject to the Seattle Center Employees Firearm Policy.

Possess or display a firearm on the campus, unless permitted by applicable law."

Note that a concealed weapon would technically count under the 'carry concealed on his or her person any weapon' clause because they include firearms in the definition of weapons, even if you had an out under the following 'permitted by applicable law' clause.

Of course, all of this is void under pre-emption, but just FYI. Anyone care to try and get it clarified?

I read it that open carry is acceptable per their pre-empted rules. there are or's in your quote, it ends up being only concealed firearms are prohibited.

    edit to point out:
    J: Campus Exclusion

The Director or his or her designee may, by delivering an Exclusion Notice to the offender, exclude from the Seattle Center campus for a period not to exceed five (5) days anyone who violates any provision of these rules or any other applicable Seattle Center rules; anyone who violates any provision of the Seattle Municipal Code, the Revised Code of Washington, or other applicable law.
The individual need not be charged, tried, or convicted of any crime or infraction in order for an Exclusion Notice to be issued or effective. The Exclusion may be based upon activities observed by the Director or a Seattle Center employee, or upon the sort of civilian reports that would ordinarily be relied upon by police officers in the determination of probable cause.
Upon such Notice being given, the recipient shall no longer be invited, licensed or otherwise privileged to remain on the campus.
    K: Trespass on Campus

Criminal Trespass on Campus shall include any person who knowingly:

Enters or remains on the campus without permission or from which he or she has been excluded during the period covered by an Exclusion Notice pursuant to these rules.
Enters, remains in, or is otherwise present within the premises of the campus during hours within which the campus is not open to the public, or within an area not open to the public, unless the person is present within the campus to participate in an activity either conducted by Seattle Center or conducted pursuant to the terms of a license or permit issued by Seattle Center.

Saw a guy OCing in the Covington Home Depot on Kent-Kangley Rd. I said hi and let him know I appreciated him defending our rights, had a pleasant conversation about revolvers and referred him to opencarry.org
