Why use the back door? If you're carrying legally, and the Library is a Public "corporation", they can't prevent you from carrying. If the "library director" wants to instigate another unlawful detainment, then maybe you should file a claim against the Library as well as the PD.

Its Still FUBAR. What it boils down to according to the library director is sign stays up because the building is owned by the Tillicum Community Center. ( Even though building was built and still recieves taxpayer funds.) IT probably could be fought at the City of Lakewood Council level and removed . I do not live there and do not have the time to do it. I did what i could, all i got from them was to move the no firearms sign from one side of double door to the other side away from library sign. (There is a pic of sign in other thread.) And an ok from director to ignore it.

Well he got the money from Lakewood because it was the Lakewood PD that harass him but I believe you would have to go through the county to get the signs removed. Since it's the Pierce County Library System.

Karen Priest is the executive director of the community center her number is 253-584-1280. She told me they were semi-private, whatever that means.The library does not care if sign comes down, it is Karen who is the one who insists it stays. She told me the library rents space in the building. But according to tax records the county actually owns that part of the building that it uses. And from what i can tell its the City of Lakewood who funds the majority of the center, thats why i mentioned the council. The rest of the building has a Seamar clinic, a food bank, clothing exchange, provide WIC services and do recreation activities with seniors like Bingo and cards. http://lakewood-chamber.com/node/1541 Like i said its FUBAR i dont have time to deal with it. Good find. Seems racist. They are "targeting low income ethnic minorities" and want to enforce a gun ban for said population. What do they have against non-white, African Americans and Hispanics. Either they must be thinking:

1) they are more prone to commit violence, therefore should be barred from carrying a gun
2) they are not as deserving of the right to self defense, therefore should be barred from carrying a gun and face increased risk of becoming a defenseless victim.

Karen Priest seems to be saying: "Poor? Black? Hispanic? We don't trust you with a firearm." It seems she should be following state law, and it seems like she is not -- based on personal bias. Is there an element of racism in her anti-gun views?

Now to be clear I am not calling Karen Priest, the director of the Tillicum Community Center, a racist. I'm simply pointing out that based on the racists past of gun control laws and beliefs, that her actions could be seen through that prism by a reasonable witness of these events.
