#3 Why in the world do we still have the outdated electoral college system when it is so outdated? If I vote for one person and the other person up for election wins 50.1% of the vote in my state, they automatically win 100% of the vote from my state even though I didn't vote for them... this caused a big backlash not to long ago with the most recent Bush election... he lost the popular vote but somehow managed to win anyway...
I have more but I'm not gonna get into it... these are just examples of how the people in control are going to stay in control as long as money is involved.
I agree with all three points, Grim. The rationale for the Electoral College was established in 1804 under the premise that timely communication of information regarding candidates between the 13 states was difficult since there was nothing similar to the telegraph system, or even the Pony Express at that time. Without timely and sufficient information, it was feared that some voters would be uninformed and vote out of ignorance (today we call them liberal Socialist-"Progressives", or Democrats), making poor choices. Therefore, the original idea was for the most knowledgeable and informed individuals from each State to select the president based solely upon merit and without regard to State of origin or political party. Those times are long passed, the reasoning is now invalid, and there is no longer any justification for an Electoral College... except to thwart the voice of the people. :uhoh: Pax...
