With all matters of law, you should do your own reading and/or consult a lawyer for advice. I am not a lawyer, so my post here is my personal interpretation only and I make no guarantees that the information is correct or complete.

You can OC anywhere in NV that possession of a firearm is not prohibited by state or federal law.

Some prohibited locations:

- Elementary and Secondary schools (public and private)
- Child care facilities
- Property of the NV System of Higher Education
- Vehicle of a public or private school or child care facility

Note that these are prohibited because there is a general prohibition on possession in these locations. There is nothing in NRS regarding open carry at all.

As for airports and police stations, there is nothing present in NRS prohibiting possession or open carry of firearms in the publicly accessible areas of those locations.

Citing to authority, using links when available,is what makes OCDO so successful. An authority is a published source of law that can back your claim up - statute, ordinance, court case, newspaper article covering a legal issue, etc.

Cite, please.

Yard Sale,

The OP was asking a question and looking for information. I do not think it is reasonable, or fair, for you to demand a cite for a question. Do you?

FYI, here is the link to the restriction on schools. There are other restricted location some, like federal buildings and post offices, will not be found in the NRS. Google may be your friend. I strongly recommend that you follow the advice above and consult a competent lawyer. IANAL

NRS 202.265 Possession of dangerous weapon on property or in vehicle of school or child care facility; penalty; exceptions.
1. Except as otherwise provided in this section, a person shall not carry or possess while on the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education, a private or public school or child care facility, or while in a vehicle of a private or public school or child care facility:

"Nevada does not have laws specifically allowing open carry. There are no laws making it illegal though, therefore it is legal. " - the trifold

without looking at the 1,000 Ft school zone issue. . .
It is not illegal to OC/CC at schools just Restricted with a Written permission requirement:
NRS 202.265 3. (a)(3) Person having written permission from the president of a branch or facility of the Nevada System of Higher Education or the principal of the school or the person designated by a child care facility to give permission to carry or possess the weapon.
while this is highly unlikely it is still possible.

The problem with hospitals is No trespassing While it is legal to carry It is Private property.

Except UMC, which is a public building. They DO have "no weapons" signs everywhere, but that doesn't make them enforceable.

I would have already taken this one on, but I get sent there for work frequently, and can't rock that boat.

It infuriates me every time I walk through the door though.

I would be very careful with UMC -- it wouldn't take much of a reach to make that hospital an extension of UNR's medical school, and therefore off limits. All other hospitals are legal.

I think what yard sale was going for, was that the OP posted INNACCURATE INFO. So if the OP thought it was accurate, to dispute it, a cite would be needed. It was about airports and cop shops. I'm defending both yard sale and the OP

How about this -

Can provide NRS/law if needed - you cannot carry in post offices, federal buildings, schools, while over .10 BAC drunk.

You may carry police stations, casinos, bars, restaurants, cars, homes, airports before security areas, public areas, private areas (this mostly means OC, some public areas stipulate no CC)

PS the cop shop has been disputed, and see dont tread on me and tim (sorry dont remember last name...fallon?) for their exercises on that front. I just purchased a new firearm, was going to go register it etc and do this work...but the damn gun store reg-ed it for me and now I got nothin....

If you go in and tell them you lost the blue card, they will not tell you that you don't need it anyway. They will pretend that you do and will do the entire registration process all over again before issuing you a new card.

If its the same health district i'm thinking of then yes it's a government building and therefor no different than the DMV -- they can restrict concealed carry, but not open carry.

It was southern Nevada health district on nellis.

Next time, take a trifold, and ask for someone in management. Show them 202.3673, point out that it regulates concealed carry only, and then point out the preemption statute, in case they try to state it is "policy". There was a video on here many moons ago where this was handled at the DMV. Watch it, and it will give you an idea of how to handle it.

Next time I find myself there, I will do the same.

Was this security guard armed by any chance?

Just remember, there are two parts of 202.3673.

The first part tells you that it prohibits only concealed firearms in some government buildings.

The second part tells the people of the government building to have a sign posted at each public entrance indicating that "no firearms are allowed in the building". That's the language they are told to use, and that's what they post.

Don't be confused. Many read the sign and believe that what is posted is the law and it prohibits all firearms, when it only prohibits concealed firearms.

Some buildings actually have signs posted that state that only concealed firearms are prohibited, like the DMV in Fallon.
