We're back at Denny's! As some might remember at the last meet we had to duke it out with some "scrabblers". We lost. But I am told that this next meet will be a Scrabble-free Zone so we will have the back room all to ourselves once again.

My OC Meet Tips:
(feel free to add your own)

*Care how you look*
You're representing a controversial movement. Try not to fit the part of any stereotype other than "well-mannered law-abiding citizen".

*Don't touch your firearm unless you're drawing for protection*
If you want to show something off then do so without actually touching it. We don't want to give anyone (law-ignorant citizens) any further cause for alarm.

*Be polite to everyone*
You may be confronted by a person with Hoplophobia (a mental disturbance characterized by irrational aversion to weapons). Police may respond to a call where someone reported "hundreds of terrorists pointing their machine guns at babies and old people." Just be nice, keep your cool, and leave ad hominem attacks out of it. If you can't do that or don't feel comfortable at any time just shut up and let someone else handle it.

*Be prepared to be criticized by your OC peers*
If you misrepresent the group you might be politely asked to make an adjustment. And if you think something I'm doing is bad for the movement or group then I expect to be told.

Sadly I won't be in NM until the second week of Oct. If anybody is around and up for a meet on either the 11th or 12th or 13th (Thursday or Friday or Saturday)? I would join.

PS. I'm not even coming for the balloons that is just coincidence.

I will also be in the Belen, Los Lunas and Bosque Farms area.

nuc65,

The Rio Rancho/Albuquerque OC people also have a regular WEEKLY meeting -- IIRC it's at an ABQ Dunkin' Donuts -- that you could attend.

IIRC, they have a place they post this stuff (besides here) and it mght be ver at Facebook, as per this thread:

http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showthread.php?98360-Facebook-Group-New-Mexico-Open-Carry

As for the balloons, enjoy the increased traffic in the "launch field" area...and watch out for balloons making emergency landings on your car as you travel about ABQ and RR. The ones with the muddy/wet baskets (from doing that "touch and go" maneuver in the Rio Grande) messing-up a just-washed car -- aside from the dents it also leaves -- are REALLY annoying!

;-)

UPDATE: I looked back in the older posts here and on page 3 found this info:

Albuquerque Weekly OC Meet - Dunkin Donuts - Saturdays @ 9pm

...you'd just need to find out which one (I forget), but it's probably on that NM OCDO Facebook link I gave above.

Thanks, appreciate the info. The balloon fiesta has changed a lot from what I remember (before it had the word Kodak in it). So I probably will just head up onto Tramway to watch a mass ascension if I do anything.

nuc65,

If you're going to be up there on Tramway, take your wife/GF with you to the County Line restaurant (at the very NORTH end of Tramway Blvd., at the top of the "hill" before you go downhill on Tramway/556 to the Sandia Casino and I-25 -- if you didn't know), get a table on the West side of the building (picture-windows on that side) and watch from there. It's a nice place...if you've never been there, you may as well go at least once. It's one of those local places residents take their visitors to:

http://www.countyline.com/CountyLineAlbuquerque.html

So do two things at the same time: Dinner & Balloons.

A movie afterwards is optional...

P.S. CCing or OCing at the County Line is not optional though: They have a bar inside for on-site alcohol consumption. :-(
...so, you'll have to do that at Dunkin' Donuts with the local OCDO guys...

P.P.S. Sorry, Travis, for hijacking your thread...will make up for it by paying for everyone's pie over at Village Inn...but only if we go on their Free Pie Wednesday. ;-)

Thanks for the info, I am actually an ABQ native, born and raised and graduated UNM. Used to live not far from the Tram. This trip is mostly business and a lot of road time with some colleagues. But taking some time off before heading back to VA.
