The Socialist Party never got anyone elected as president and I don;t think they had anyone in Congress. But 100 - 120 years ago they were getting votes. Enough that the Ds and Rs took note, and started chasing those votes. Finally the Socialist party collapsed, saying they had no reason to exist because the Ds and Rs had enacted the whole Socialist platform.

If you won't vote for what you want, don't be surprised if you don't get what you want. If you vote for what you don't want, don't be surprised if you get it. Those who voted for McCain four years ago got what they voted for; higher taxes, perpetual involvement in the Mideast, more government involvement in healthcare, etc. Worse yet, those who voted for McCain only encouraged the Rs to run Romney this time. How's that working for you?

Governor Johnson won't take many votes from Romney. By pretending to be a fiscal conservative Romney will take votes from Governor Johnson. Romney hasn't even identified his real threat.. He needs to watch the Socialist Workers, Socialism & Liberation, and Justice Party parties

This is getting or has gotten as bad as the propaganda we hear in the elections of twisting and turning to read as they wish.
You wrote "Those who voted for McCain four years ago got what they voted for" as to who ? What Libertarian even came near getting 1 electoral vote? Who, I can't hear you! It is the ones who did not vote and those who voted for a party and had no chance of getting into office just so they could sit back and say I didn't vote for either one! There votes were wasted, who listened to one non democratic or republican vote, how did any of the non votes were listened to? what impact have they made expect for putting Obama into office.

The people who honestly agree with the way Romney's has governed and WANT a big government machine... Those people voting for Romney doesn't bother me a bit. Vote for the guy that is going to give you the way of life you want. It's the people that would rather have Gary Johnson as president, but are afraid to go against the popular kids that make me sick.

The only propaganda is the one made that your vote is "wasted" if you don't vote for you guy.

Amusing how people get upset at those who don't vote because it goes against their "zealous religion" like protection of their system, but then will get upset when people vote their conscience and truly vote for the better guy, who happens not be one of the major two fascists running.

I was going to ignore this but I do have one point to make. Voting for Johnson will not in any way help obama in the state of Washington. We have an electoral college system and obama is going to take the 13 electoral votes in Washington state because it is winner take all. If this were a close swing state or the election was going to be close in Washington then I would think differently.

Good point.

Personally for me it wouldn't change my vote if it was a swing state.

But for those who are voting "against Obama", your vote for is "wasted", why not vote Gary Johnson, a much truer conservative than Obama light Romney. Since we don't matter why not vote for someone who believes in liberty and freedom. What can happen is that we as a state may not change the national vote this election, but we can raise a third party to the level of a "major party" recognized by the state and we can change the debate from the fallacy issues put forth by Demo/Republican party. If you don't think this can happen consider the percentage needed to do this is only about 6%, (correct me if I am wrong).

P.S.

I wasn't going to Vote Gary Johnson I was a Ron Paul guy, but I think I will vote for him now. I personally feel he doesn't have a full grasp of libertarianism and has a few left over Republican notions I disagree with, but I have met him he is a down to earth person had no problem with Wordinger's or my OC. As I watch his progression as a politician, I see him adjusting his positions to more and more libertarian like principles. I feel Romney/Obama are evil, maybe not as individuals but their policies and their ideologies they adhere to religiously result in evil and tyranny.

Very good point. You Obama haters (I'm one too) that just want him out. If you believe Romney has no chance in your state how about voting with Gary Johnson this year. Send a message to America that this "politics as usual" system we have has got to go!

My thoughts on this subject

There is a lot of truth here. Think about it.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, whose hand was caught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his role as our president.
The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle''.
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just Wonder what kind of dumb a#$ put him up there to begin with."

Best explanation I've heard yet.

And the only one who is in a position to beat Obama is Rommey but when you are resigned to the idea of being beaten, go ahead and vote for someone that will not have a remote chance, how has the worked for you thus far at getting one of you choices in office?

You don't see the hypocritical defeatist contradiction in this very post?

Your guy don't count so vote for my guy that doesn't count slightly less?

I think some people don't want liberty they are afraid, and are afraid if someone like Johnson or Paul would win change might happen so they do all they can to keep the "status quo" going.

I am a realist, as much as I would like Romney to beat obama in Washington State it aint gonna happen. Now in several swing states especially Ohio and Florida I would not say vote for the 3rd party candidate. Basically our vote in Washington will not matter in the presidential race because of how the electoral college is set up. If Washington were not a winner take all state I would never even think about a third party candidate. If our president was elected via popular vote I would not think the way I do either.

If everybody that wants obama to win, votes for obama???

And

If everybody that want obama OUT, voted for romney???

Who would get the most votes in washington state?

Unfortunately obama will get the most votes in Washington because of the overpopulation of liberals in the Puget Sound area.

With the current climate we have if one is not of the two major political parties there is no chance in hell for one of them to win.
Granted Washington State in the past hand full of elections have went the way of Democrat and the Republicans have been the only possible challenger and the only way to change the political climate is to vote Democrats out by voting Republican and Romney is still a better choice then Obama and not voting for Romney will ensure another 4 years of Obama.
That is the reality of it, like it or not we are a country of Majority though the electoral college has put that up for grabs at times but at no time has alternative political party been able to have more then a handful of votes. Like it or not they are not a majority or even close to being a competitor.

So again, how is voting for a 3rd party in a state where the neo-con Romney isn't going to win, changing any of that?

If Republicans had nominated Ron Paul, they would have taken the election hands down.....but instead they opted for slightly different version of Obama...

Another interesting point I'd like to make when you look at how many don't vote the people elected or done so by a "minority" of the population.

1. Voting a 3rd party is exactly like throwing a vote away to a party that has not a chance to win.
2. Ron Paul has tried and tried for many years and has yet to have a chance, keep riding that beaten horse.
3. And you are wanting to be one of the ones who do not vote and be counted in those who do not care enough to take time to actually vote (per your earlier statements of not voting).

SVG you just want a pissn match, You have stated your view as I have as well, mine is reality and yours is but a fantasy :D

You avoided my question again.

1. Voting for Romney in a state he won't win is the same thing as your assertation of "wasting" your vote.

2. Ron Paul has done a lot more to get people motivated about their government than Neo-cons or neo liberals. He had more than 50% support at my local cacaus, change is coming whether you like it or not. The republican party is going by by if they don't nominate someone like Ron Paul. The republican party seems to have purposefully not chose a liberty loving person that would have won them the election for a statist who may very well cost them the election.

3. If you follow the thread and pay attention to my actual statements, you will see I am voting this year. Plus your fallacy allegation that my past not voting has anything to do with not caring, is laughable and statist propaganda. But like usual you either miss the point of the statement or are purposefully avoiding it.

Nope not up for a "pissn match" just a conversation involving logic, my bad.

False, this is your fantasy. People who vote for whom they believe in do not throw their vote away anymore than those that voted for the 1st loser in the race. You can keep repeating a false statement but it does not make it anymore true. You can keep repeating what you have done for the last 50 years and expecting a different result, expecting change or expecting utopia, but none will happen without doing something different. Vote for a candidate who you believe in and aligns with your ideals. If you believe in a Marxist vote for Obama, if you believe in Socialism vote for Romney, if you believe in Libertarianism vote for Johnson, etc... Having 'thrown away my vote' for McCain last time, I will no longer repeat the same mistake. Unlike others, I will not take into account the electoral college, I will do what is right. I am willing for you to mock me, go ahead if it makes you feel better. I am willing to do the right thing. I am willing to follow my conscious.

Apparently some 50,000 'threw' away their votes in Washington last time. I applaud them, what courage!
