Houston TX Run. Hide. Fight. video

Here is a 6 minute video, about Surviving an Active Shooter Event, produced by the City of Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security. It's production was completed 2 weeks before the Aurora Colorado movie theater attack, and released the end of July, 2012:

You can download it in .mv4 format if you want to view it when off the internet

It was discussed briefly on CBS58 news at 10pm tonight.

-----------------------------------------------
Major points made in the video

1. RUN when an active shooter is in your vicinity:

> If there is an escape path, attempt to evacuate.
> Evacuate whether others agree to or not.
> Leave your belongings behind.
> Help others escape if possible.
> Prevent others from entering the area.
> Call 911 when you are safe.

2. HIDE If evacuation is not possible, find a place to hide:

> Lock and/or blockade the door.
> Silence your cell phone.
> Hide behind large objects.
> Remain very quiet.

Your hiding place should:
> Be out of the shooter's view.
> Provide protection if shots are fired in your direction.
> Not trap or restrict your options for movement.

3. FIGHT AS a last resort, and only if your life is in danger:

> Attempt to incapicate the shooter.
> Act with physical aggression.
> Improvise weapons.
> Commit to your actions.

The first responders on the scene are NOT there to evacuate or provide first aid. They are there to stop the shooter.

911 When Law Enforcement arrives:
> Remain calm and follow instructions.
> Keep your hands visible at all times.
> Avoid pointing or yelling.
> Know that help for the injured is on its way.

-------------------------------------------
In the video, the shooter has a pistol gripped pump shotgun. He fires six shots in the lobby. If one or more people there were armed and trained in self-defense, that would be a good time to launch a counter-attack, perhaps if he starts to reload, and his focus is on the weapon, not the environment.

Impossible. The outer door was clearly posted with a gun buster sign.... :what:

some real world suggestions that came to mind:

use a fat guy as a shield, or use your boss, or other coworker you dont like as a shield.
don a pizza delivery guy cap, and claim dont shoot me i'm just pizza delivery.
hide in the girl's bathroom, no dude would ever go in the girl's bathroom.
point to no guns allowed sign if cornered by a gunman.

Yep .. that's what we need to do.....NOT..

The Chief of Police at the VA I work at in Dayton found this and sent it to all the employees.

I had to get a new keyboard, as I spit coke all over mine.

I work in IT so I got it replaced quickly.

I prefer...

1. Draw
2. Aim
3. Pull Trigger.... 3 times...
4. Repeat ...Step 3... as necessary until threat(s) are neutralized.

as they shooter is walking up to the building and they post the many killed and wounded stats , and your thinking but guns weren't allowed at those locations and then you see the no guns posting on the door as he opens it

wouldn't it be much smarter to not post the building

we know now that you are ninety something percent more likely to be shot in a mass shooting in a building or campus or state that bans the legal carry of firearms.

avoid designated victim zones

The security guard who was shot, may have left a usable firearm available. The video encourages those unable to run, or hide, to FIGHT. This firearm could be a great improvised weapon. I would not advocate doing anything illegal.

Since I am from Wisconsin, and have not been to Texas, I thought that the partially visible sign on the door was a description of the NFL simultaneous possession rule. This is something many Wisconsinites still don't grasp fully. I apologize.
