~~It's Canadia where the igloos don't melt even in summer ~~
But would that mean someone with a topless Jeep or an old British roadster would be ticketed for the same?

To my way of thinking, a car with the ignition locked is Secured.

I suppose it would be alright to call the entire American population stupid for every state law that doesn't pass the common sense test?

I hope you didn't take my remark for anything other than sarcasm, it wasn't meant as an indictment of an entire population, just an illustration of the way some mistakenly think of Canada as always being cold.

No, not you. Canada is cold, and I was referring to the thread title.

That was my thought. If the law doesn't define "secured," the real idiot is the one that lets themselves get pissed on by the cops and law and feels good that in the end, they only got a warning.

I imagine it's not too difficult to destroy a car by driving it when a quarter of the chassis has been cut off lol

How is this any worse than the American counterparts?

News flash: Many American states and municipalities have similar laws. Ergo it's not just the 'stupid Canadians.'

For example helmet and seat belt laws.
Provision for free medical attendance and nursing, for clothing, for food, for housing, for the education of children, and a hundred other matters, might with equal propriety be proposed as tending to relieve the employee of mental strain and worry. --- These matters obviously lie outside the orbit of congressional power. Or more relevantly: In most states it's illegal to leave your car idling, but in Texas it's illegal to leave your keys in the car. Texas isn't the only state, though and there are municipalities in other states that make it illegal as well. Furthermore, there are some PDs in some cities that, upon finding an unlocked vehicle, will open the door and lock it. Even with the keys still inside. Source

The most recent two smart Canadians were named Bob & Doug. After them not too many smart Canadians have been discovered.
