Michigan Open Carry just won its lawsuit brought by the CADL (librar[y][ies]) that were banning them from carrying openly inside.

This is a great win for Michigan Open Carry and the citizens of Michigan.
Some people might remember this story from a while back because it caused quite a stir. The guys at MOC were carrying openly in certain libraries and recording their encounters with overzealous security personnel that had been hassling members and the public about their firearms. During one of these 'adventures', a young man openly carried a slung shotgun in with him since he was not able to legally carry a pistol.
Various people, organizations, etc made a big deal about all of this calling it 'stupid' and 'carrying to make a point', etc, etc.
When MOC lost the first round in court challenging CADL's interpretation of their preemption statute (a source of great debate at the time even on OCDO), many people in the 'community' came out with 'I told you so' remarks and even cheering about the decision, blaming MOC for bringing the issue up.
This is a good reminder that court fights are never this simple or easy and that most of these types of cases are not won the first time around. It is important to always plan for at least an appeal (if not many more) and to always stick together and fight for what is 'right', not what is easy or expedient. Most 'landmark' cases are actually better off lost and appealed anyway, as winning in the first court has less impact than in a higher court.
