I am considering moving to AZ after I finish school. What can some residents tell me about the RKBA climate down there.
PS I am from VA so comparisons are helpful.

We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Welcome to the forum and possibly to Arizona!
While I can't speak to the laws in Virginia and their differences with Arizona law, here is the AZ firearms law, in a nutshell.
First; I am NOT a lawyer, check the facts and laws yourself, so you are sure you understand them! (Link to ARS below)
It is completely legal to carry with a full magazine and with a round in the chamber, that's how I do it.
In addition:
If you are:
Over 18: No permit is required to carry loaded or unloaded, openly.
Over 21: No permit is required to carry loaded or unloaded, openly or discretely.
You can carry whichever way you prefer and that is legal for your age range.
There are some exceptions;
You can't carry openly into any place that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises.
You can't carry discretely into any place that serves alcohol for consumption on the premises without a concealed carry permit. Your firearm must remain concealed, and, you can NOT consume alcohol!
You can't carry discretely into any place that serves alcohol for consumption on the premises if they have signs posted prohibiting firearms. (They don't get my money...)
Private businesses can ask you to leave, if you don't you can be charged with trespassing. (None of my money there either!)
No carrying into Federal government buildings or onto school grounds. The 1000' GFSZ law isn't enforced in AZ.
Be careful around reservation land, they have their own rules and it can get dicey.
Of course, drinking and carrying is a bad combination, don't!
When in a vehicle, you may carry discretely if you are over 21. If stopped by a LEO, you might be asked if you have a firearm, if you are asked, you must tell them. They might take the firearm for the duration of the stop.
You can purchase long guns and ammunition for them at 18 and handguns and their ammunition at 21. No limit on the number of rounds you can purchase.

If you do move you may find many things you like. I am originally from MI., but had the good luck to visit VA in 2010 for a few weeks in June-July. The temps were in the high 90's & even low 100's then so you may already be used to the summer heat (somewhat). As a matter of fact if I am not mistaken AzCDL's own Fred is originally from VA. Our laws here are very liberty orientated /pro-rights/2A :banana:
Now I cannot speak to other area's of AZ but should you move to the "Valley" (Metro Phoenix area) be prepared for a bit of culture shock. I live in the Northeast Valley (Scottsdale aka Snottsdale) area. There are a lot of transplants from California in this area, and they bring a somewhat "snippy-90210" http://www.cwtv.com/shows/90210 attitude with them. Other than that life is good and it is absolutely beautiful here. There are many, many things to do outside be it hiking, biking, balloon rides, golfing, horseback riding, dirt biking, dune buggies, etc.. you name it we pretty much have it.

Can anyone tell me about Gilbert, AZ? What kind of neighborhoods can I expect?

I understand that AZ is a constitutional carry state, but do they still issue CWPs, and if so, do they have any benefit?
They are also "shall-issue" for the permit. If you have the permit, you can carry in an unposted bar/restaurant*, as long as you are not drinking. It must stay concealed while there, also.
Without a permit, you can't carry in a bar/restaurant, period. If it is posted, you can't carry, period.
Also, the permit is recognized in several other states, including NV and UT, for when you travel.

You are welcome. I only wish I had someone to do the same for my family before we moved here. I think we would have moved to a little less Snobbish area, being from the midwest where people still say: excuse me, hello, etc.. The snippy folk tend to grate on my arse a bit.
Oh and growing up in Detroit I never thought I would ever say this: The "Valley" which Gilbert is a part of, has some of the worst drivers in the country! You'll see what I mean once you get here. I again attribute this to a mix of Californians and immigrants, but it could just be their all looking at the beautiful scenery?

When I hear someone say that it usually means they drive too slow.
Find your gas pedal and you'll do fine. 75+ is normal on freeways, 50-55 in the city. 11 over is the usual threshold for a ticket. Passing cops at 50+ in a 45 rarely gets any attention.School zones are the exception. Do not even go 1 mph over.
Illegals are easily spotted because they go 10 less than the speed limit and have a pictograph of their family on the rear windshield.
ETA. It is slowbird, I mean snowbird season so be careful.
