Hmmmm, what about the wood parts? I'm basing my reluctance toward cosmoline on my experience getting CMP rifles ready to use. Maybe on a pistol with synthetic grips it's not that big a deal?

The military sprays cosmoline on ALL of the firearm. A smart "civilian" removes the wood parts, including plastic pistol grips before spraying cosmoline on the firearm.
