Open Carry in a PFZ- who actually does it on a regular basis?

How often have you OCed in a PFZ in the last 30 days?

I OC'd weekly until the Pastor and ex-Elder stopped me. After-which they said I could lock it in the church until they realized that I had to OC to the office which offended some high tithing people. I would rather be able to CC than not carry at all! The Ex-Elder is really ticked that if this passes, that I will be carrying whether they like it or not!

Well buddy,I happen to care for my family more than you....

It all comes down to money - whether gov or pub.
Well technically not true, as a private property they can ban firearms. The reality is they probably wouldn't know. Not the same thing.

Good thing you didn't ask how many have CCed in PFZs. Because that would be illegal.

You sayin' it's illegal to even ask?

My point was that as churches are actually corporations (as opposed to real private property), they are motivated by their financial balance more than truth or justice. In my case, this went sour because one of the big "donors" & a relative of the pastor, were part and parcel of gossip in the hope of making OC/CC look fearful and un-Biblical. And due to monetary concerns by the CEO (nee pastor) - We who believe like we do are the odd ones out.

And like many, This pastor believes in unity at all costs (which is not Biblical).

Apart from politics - Its a good church! But that is usually the case here in amerika!

I was merely addressing this comment "The Ex-Elder is really ticked that if this passes, that I will be carrying whether they like it or not!"

My point is even if this passes they can still ban firearms, so no reason for the Ex-elder to be ticked. If you had wanted to you could have carried CC anyway, the risk is small and only a civil infraction and CPL suspension for 6 months.

OK, I gotch'ya now!

If SB59 passes and someone who does not get the checkbox CC's in a PFZ - does the penalty change with this law? (I plan on getting the check myself...) But you bring up a good point!

I will be discussing the bill in detail on my show Saturday Afternoon Shootout this Saturday at 1:00 on www.flinttalkradio.com . If you can't listen live we pod-cast it as well.

To answer your question, No, if you CC in a PFZ without the exemption the penalty is the same.

If you get the checked box and willingly OC in a PFZ the penalty is the same as if you CC in the PFZ, it BS of course, but it is what it is.

There is a rumor that if you can stump him on MI gun law you could win a prize.

Not a rumor, we have gift cards to give away. The cards were donated by a person that is a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment and puts both his ass and his money on the line for the fight. And by ass I don't mean he sells it ;) or anything, I mean he risks it and has fought in the trenches and has been bloodied in battle.

Whoever that person is I thank him or her....

Back to the OP's Thread Intent...

1 time in the last 30 days to Vote at the local High School. I have OC'ed in PFZ's 6 times now, 1 time in a bar/restaurant with about 8 other OC'ers and 5 times to vote at the local High School.

The poll question looks like someone trying to prove that not many OC in PFZ's, so it's ok to ban OC in those areas. I remember a time not all that long ago, where if the question was "Who actually OC's on a regular basis?" that it would have been next to 0%. I bet if there was a poll 10 years ago asking whether or not it was legal to carry a handgun exposed in public, that most would have answered that it wasn't.

My point is that we shouldn't sacrifice the "rights" of some just because there aren't a lot that participate.

I need to check my understanding of the current Michigan law. The "checked box" refers to a CPL whose owner can CC in a PFZ (like a LEOSA-qualified person). This person can CC in the numerous PFZs but would be penalized for OCing there; the exact opposite of the case for the standard CPL holder.

Please let me know if I am incorrect.

Under the current law (MCL 28.425o), you must have a CPL and be exempt to CC in those PFZ's. Currently, there's no requirement/law to have the Exemption Box checked if you're actually exempt (Local Reserve Deputy, CO, Posse, Etc). This will change if SB59 is signed into law.

If SB59 is signed into law, you will need a CPL, extra training over and above the training requirement for the CPL, and have the Exemption Box checked. It will also prohibit OC in those PFZ's unless LEO, Security for the premises, or permission from owner(s)/Agent(s) of owner(s), Etc.

So I, with a CO resident permit, could OC in the zones now, but not if SB59 is passed. I will be sure to avoid them altogether. Thanks.

Yep. You got it. Welcome to MI. , where we want you to feel safe. We just do not want you to do it openly...:uhoh: and if you carry in our PFZ's lookout buddy, Johnny Law will lock your A$$ up. Never mind our cities like: Flint, Detroit, Pontiac etc.. usually are at the top of the murder/violent crime lists. We want you to "FEEL" safe & not actually be safe..

ETA - I can say these things because I spent 40+ years in MI. The gun laws there are INSANE compared to many other states. Example if Anubis above did not have a permit from CO, even though MI is a open carry state he could not carry a pistol in MI unless it had been previously registered by him in his name (as a MI resident) under MCL 28.422. WTF?

The new law says only those licensed under the MI act can not OC in those zones. There is no mention that out of state permit holders can or can not. Since they are not explicitly mentioned I believe you could OC in those places.

IANAL

I agree! I OC 99.99%(CC for rain&heavy snow) and in GFZ's.This bill makes OC illegal for the first time if added to MCL,and makes us pay(get gov permission) to exercise Our Right, which for those who cannot afford it IS also discriminatory and racist as always! $200+ for app, training etc. for exercising Our Rights IS ALWAYS socialistic, discriminatory and unconstitutional according to ME and The Founders!

Not trying to 'prove' anything. The data speaks for itself; it is neither right or wrong, nor good or evil- its just data. Everyone if free to draw inferences from it as they wish.
