"DENVER (AP) - Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper says "the time is right" for state lawmakers to consider gun control measures, offering his firmest stance in the aftermath of several high-profile shootings, including a movie theater rampage in suburban Denver, that have shocked the nation."

Do you think things are going to change, for the worse -- at least in Denver County if not the whole state?

Are there enough pro-gun people in CO to be an obstacle to the Governor's efforts -- considering that CO went for Obama so apparently the majority of Coloradans (like the Governor) are Democrat?

It's interesting though, that in some "blue" states -- like NM for example, which has been mostly Democrat for years -- where one would think a "mostly Democrat state" would have the most oppressive gun carry laws (like very much blue state Hawaii), there STILL is a fairly good pro-gun environment in those states...meaning OC and CC allowed (HI is one exception). So I wonder if Hickenlooper, as cluless as he is re: guns & crime, will get anywhere (and I wonder if NEXT time a Republican Governor could be elected in blue state CO).

Would hate to see presently OC/CC-friendly CO change to a more restrictive state -- as if THAT will stop any more criminal/psycho shooting incidents from happening. As we know, it won't.

Governor Hickenlooper is of course the former Mayor of Denver - so.... go figure.

The Dem's seem to think they are on a roll since Obie-wan-Acorn-obi mysteriously won the "ballot count" (?) on November 6th.

Keep it up Hickenlooper - and Coloradoans will turn you out to pasture in 2014.

Don't mistake the libertarian propensity of Coloradoans ("legalized pot") for tolerance on gun control.

Ain't gonna happen.

You should applaud him and present him with a gift: the same designed plane that John Denver piloted !

Happy flying gov ...

...there was nothing wrong with the plane or its design, it was pilot error, and an unnecessary/stupid error at that (I HOPE it wasn't intentional): John Denver didn't put gas in the plane before he took off!

He was even asked by one of the workers there if he wanted to top-off -- he said no. So when he ran out of gas, he dropped like a rock. Maybe he wasn't a good enough pilot to coast it in (keep the nose up at the right angle to keep it moving forward just above stall speed) for a MAYBE survivable water landing (ditching). Also, maybe he wasn't any better of a pilot than John Kennedy Jr. was (also dying in a plane crash) as both may have been on the inexperienced side. Who knows.

But back to Governor Hickenlooper: Sounds like he and Governor Abercrombie of Hawaii (another old Hippie) would get along famously. They should meet and discuss plans for Liberal world domination in a new age without guns...complete with people riding unicorns in green pastures and rainbows in the skies with diamonds.

Oops...I'm getting WAY ahead of myself there. ;-)

I hope rushcreek2 is right and Hickenlooper will get NOWHERE making Denver County any more "special" (vs. the REST of the state) than it already is.

After all, Denver exempting itself from the State Constitution (re: OCing) is the height of arrogance all by itself.

I thought it was where a valve was to open a fuel tank .. required him to take his hands off the controls ..

Anyway, one designed like that !

Yes, there was a fuel-selector lever he needed to move (to the other tank) as he ran out of gas while doing touch & go landings. But TMK, it's not known how much fuel was in that other tank.

I'm just saying he should have topped off BOTH tanks before taking off...flying an "awkward" experimental plane (Adrian Davis Long-EZ) or a tried & true Cessna.

Truth being CO is a very "purple" state. Many of us don't vote along party lines and don't even think in terms of parties. Most people I know make fun of people that associate themselves with one of the two main parties because the parties are unrealistically extreme in their views and detached from reality. We will vote for 2 republicans, 2 democrats, and a libertarian, all in the same day and the votes will be cast based on the individual's stance on a wide variety of issues that are important to us as individuals, not always based on our party affiliation. However, as soon as representatives and leaders get too extreme or start worrying more about what their party thinks than what their constituents think, then they usually don't last too long.

Northern CO is probably one of the most difficult places in the state to categorize people's political views. I know way too many gun-toting pro-life fiscally and morally conservative registered democrats and too many gun-fearing pro-choice pro-tax atheist registered republicans to make any sense of the party system it that area.

Point being, 'Hick' made his way in to office by focusing on some broad reaching problems in this state, and saying little to nothing about gun control during his campaign. No matter what their voter card registration may say, the numbers show the majority of people in this state (that live outside of Denver city limits) are gun owners who are proud of their 2A rights. If he makes a definitive anti-gun move and pulls the state's lawmakers and resources away from greater issues, he'll immediately lose the support of many of the people that voted for him last time around and won't be in office very long.

hick is just another pos liberal democrap hiding in "moderate" clothes. He should read the CO Constitution before he emits the usual party line of the anti-rights nuts on the left. He only won because the state republican party has had its head up its ass for years when it comes to candidates.

I'm only a recent resident of Colorado (since 2006) - but I agree with the observation that a significant number of Coloradoans tend to be more libertarian= "purple". The recent vote in favor of relaxing State marijuana possession law is Libertarianism - I voted YES on the proposition and I am not a Democratic socialist.

I no longer own an AR-15 as a matter of personal choice - but I recognize the self-defense practicality that exist for many people to be able to possess such a versatile tool.

Boomberg, Obama, Durbin, and company are frothing at the mouth to push a new generation of semi-auto/ magazine capacity restrictions. You can bet when he said "......we must change " he wasn't thinking about allowing permitted teachers, and staff to carry concealed while on the public school grounds - the most obvious "change" needed.

The anti-gun crowd wants to go after high capacity military platform semi-autos for now. AR's, AK's, then on to Mini-14's to start......then on to high- cap pistols, shotguns, and the rest including .22's.........That is their eventual objective - make no mistake about it.

I have a proposition for the other members of this forum .

As you drive around your community today check to see whether a marked PD, or SO patrol unit is parked near the entrance of your public schools.

If you don't see one in the vicinity - someone in the school district needs to explain WHY -given the impact of Friday's tragedy on the entire country.

Criminal investigations, commissions, hand-ringing, and weary dialogue isn't foing to protect our children in the public schools TODAY.

Exactly that, there are a lot of libertarians and conservatives in Colorado. You just won't find the majority of them In the Denver area.
