I see most people open carrying a pistol.
Is it legal to open carry an assault rifle like AK47 in the state of OHIO?

Any restrictions? Loaded, Chambered, or unloaded?

Welcome to OCDO.

Yours is a very sensitive subject. Threads about long-gun carry are routinely locked.

From the forum rules:

(14) LONG GUN CARRY IS OFF-TOPIC: This web site is focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life. We do NOT promote the carry of long guns. Long guns are great! OCDO co-founders John & Mike and most of the members of this forum own at least one long gun - but due to urban area issues of muzzle control, lack of trigger guard coverage, and the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry. Exception: This rule does NOT apply to discussions about long gun carry in jurisdictions such as California which ban handgun carry and thus require long gun carry as a matter of public policy.

While open carry of an ASSAULT RIFLE appears to be legal in Ohio, openly carrying an ASSAULT RIFLE is a bad idea if you do not possess the proper ATF paperwork and tax stamp for said ASSAULT RIFLE as an ASSAULT RIFLE is a military term for a selective fire weapon that must be registered with the BATF. Having an unregistered machine gun is punishable by 10 years in prison and permanent loss of your gun rights. (26 USC Ch 53) Also possessing "dangerous ordnance" is a felony in Ohio (ORC 2923.17) however those weapons registered under the NFA are exempted.

Assuming the ASSAULT RIFLE is in fact legally registered with the ATF you should have no problems.

If you meant to say "rifle" or "semi-automatic rifle" then there should be no problems with state or federal law, at least as I see through a brief skim over of the ORCs
