    I guess I'm a unicorn...?

My husband took me on a date to a local gun show this morning, so I could get a feel for some double stack models that I may like. We were having a good time handling different makes and models, pointing things out to each other, molesting some guns we couldn't afford... It was great.

What kind of weirded me out out, though, was that once the vendors found out that not only was I there because I wanted to be, (not because I'd been dragged along,) but that I was the one shopping around, they all started exclaiming things to my husband, like "You better keep her, man! She's a good one!" or "Any woman that shoots is on my side!"

I think three or four different vendors reacted this way, and two of them asked me directly if I was a shooter based on my handshake alone. (I guess they expect all women to have a wimpy, dainty grip or something? )

We had a lot of fun, but half the time I felt like I had a rainbow colored horn on my forehead...are active, gun enthusiastic women really so rare?

This species you speak of is now off of the endangered species list and coming back STRONG! HAHA.

I see women everytime I go to the range now, and I see them carrying quite often. I am glad women are discovering how wonderful firearms can be and I also appreciate how they are beginning to understand that only they can defend themselves when alone.

What you said about women defending themselves reminds me of something one of the vendors said to me. This was completely out of the blue and very strange to me, but he pointed to me, and my son, and said that if someone shot me, he would kill them for me. (Uhhh, okay...)

My response was that if I needed someone else to defend me, I was doing something wrong.

    Rare? Yes.

Dainty handshakes? I went to a party last night and everyone shook hands like a little girl. Come on, people! This is the south, you're factory workers. What the hell is with the little girl handshake?

When you shake a man's hand, you ain't holding blown glass. If you squeeze a little, you won't hurt him. So squeeze dammit. Squeeze like your life depends on it. Else you're just a pretentious snob. Humph

LOL, be Annie Oakley, not Scarlett O'Hara!!!

I would say 9 times out of 10, men are surprised by my firm handshake, and comment on it, as if it's some amazing thing.
