    How will this play out?

Depending on what Obama says today in his gun control speech, what do you think will become of it?
I know the last gun control bill didn't work at all, and basically got dropped, but if Di Fi in Commiefornia re-writes her gun ban law, I'm sure that they will cover the missed items that were missed last time.
And what about all the people who have been buying up AR's and rifles, and handguns all over the U.S.? Wonder if they will have to turn around and turn those in?
I know it may be like it was when Obama first ran for president, and then again in re-election, gun sales rose, but this time it "seems" different.

I believe we will see some restriction in normal capacity magazines. They seem to be saying they will accept 10 persons being killed at a time, with a pause for 2 seconds to reload, and another 10 persons killed, etc.

They might put the 1994 AWB back on the books, but it is mostly cosmetic in nature and will not have any impact on criminals.

I think the real danger area for us is in ammo. If you are not a high volume shooter, as I am, then it might be a small issue. Even at a stupid price buying one box of ammo every 5-10 years is not that bad. To me it is a huge issue and would alter my shooting lifestyle dramatically.

Unfortunately whatever they do will only be for show and to make them feel good, having no real effect on anything.

Assuming they pass the new version of the AWB, sooner or later we will have another shooting somewhere, probably a gun free zone, and the gun control wail will start again.

I honestly believe if you could peal the onion back far enough the movers and shakers of gun control know none of these laws will have any positive effect. Then at some point they can claim that they have tried everything possible and nothing works, now we have to move to confiscation.

I think we are bring "conditioned" right now with Homeland Security, TSA, "show me your papers", "it is for public safety", "it is for the children", and a daily barrage of disinformation from the media to prepare us for the eventual end of freedom as we know it.

It amazes me that the same folks who can't control our borders, and can't keep 20 million illegals out of the country think they can control guns.

I agree with everything you have stated.

It is very sad that the anti-gunners know these new laws will do nothing to stop this madness (if they don't then they are completely ignorant) but they push for them anyways. They push for them for a reason, and it has nothing to do with firearms at all: it is all about CONTROL!

If anyone knows anything about history, they know that governments have done anything and everything to disarm their citizens before becoming complete fascist dictatorships! Once a country begins moving towards socialism freedoms quickly become a thing of the past, and the Federal Government has quickly made this transistion. We no longer have three branches of government at the federal level, we have only one: the executive branch of government has become all three. We merely have the illusion of three branches, although it isn't difficult for one to realize that isn't the case.

They know these laws will only lead to more violent crime (as can be witnessed in other countries that have disarmed their citizens), but with more violent crimes come more reasons to control the entire population.

People always chastise other people for saying the Federal Government is taking over (or being taken over), but they refuse to open their mind and study the past! This has happened in ever country around the Earth, yet they believe it will never happen here for some reason. We are the last beacon of liberty in the world, and our torch is nearly extinguished. We are all that stands between the globalists and world government. Folks, we have been slowly stripped of every right we had. Don't believe me?, read over the Patriot Act (1&2) and the NDAA. Read over the thousands of executive orders that completely by-pass Congress and make the Office of President a dicatorship! The truth is right in front of us, but you won't hear about it from the mainstream media! Reserach what the "United States of America" really is and who owns it. Research the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and what this has done to our country. Research who really owns the Federal Reserve! Reserach the truth about Social Security!

I could go on and on but it is no use; my rants don't accomplish anything.

I should have added one other thing that makes me somewhat optomistic. The politicians, mainly Democrats, remember what happened to them after the 1994 AWB. They were banished from power for over a decade. It is power that makes the political process get excited.

I am hopeful that they will not want to go through that time they might be banished to the wilderness where they can't exercise power over the people.

Perhaps they will look at the numbers of firearms that have been purchased, expecialy since November, and come to the conclusion that it isn't just a bunch of "gun nuts" as they like to call us. If we can get off our collective rears and let them know that we will hold each and everyone of them politically responsible for the votes they cast.

I have done nothing to be punished in any way shape or form. I remember getting a "send money" letter from the Republican party in 2004. I wrote on their letter "not another red cent until the 1994 AWB expires" and sent it back to them.

I am ready to do it again if necessary along with voting against anyone who votes to punish me for no reason.

    Mostly silliness, ineffectiveness

I think there will be another federal AWB law. Bunch of named weapons and feature combos. Silly. [eta] I assume that currently owned "assault" weapons will be legal.

The 10 round limit for magazines will certainly be reinstituted. I can't believe they will be so short-sided as to grandfather in pre-new-ban mags, but they probably will. How many are there out there, anyway -- 20 million?

There will be some new certification/qualification involving mental health for all gun carriers. Could be an affadavit, or maybe an examination of some kind.

Oh, there will be a federal excise tax on ammo. To, uh, pay for whatever needs to be done. (like fresh undershorts for Eric Holder)

Final thought: I don't see why the so-called gun show loophole wouldn't be up for closing. I'd estimate about a 40% probability that the anti-gunners will get it. But the NRA/GOA will fight like the devil to make sure that doesn't happen. The rest we can live with. Ugh.

This is the ONLY reason I remain optimisitc as well. Sadly, however, I do not think it matters whether it will harm their bid for re-election. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Please speak for yourself! If you are making such statements elsewhere on the Internet I would appreciate it if you didn't lump the majority of gun-owners with your view of the RKBA. I CANNOT live with another worthless infringement on my rights!

Honestly, I think it makes them feel good about themselves if nothing else that they get these laws passed. I think it becomes even more dangerous when they actually believe it's for the greater good or maybe I should say, "For our own good.", since civilians can't be trusted with guns.

I mean now you hear the rally cry of, "Nobody needs an assault rifle to go hunting.", and they try and make it sound reasonable yet you never hear these same people say, "Nobody needs a sports car to go to work.", sports cars are incredibly dangerous in unhands of civilians they can't control all that horsepower without proper training!

    We will live through it.

    You will, because it's not.

I think if you study the past, you will see that we all lived through the 1994 AWB. We can do it again. You will, too, if another passes. Any similar new law will not actually be an infringement as contemplated by 2A.

The real problem with the 1994 AWB is that it didn't really ban too much. It was pretty much feel-good legislation.

I still have some hope that NRA/GOA will save us from another stupid AWB. But my hope is dwindling. Looks like it's a go.

I hear you. I think it is most dangerous when they think that some ill-conceived new regulation will have a beneficial effect when, in actuality, it is a waste of time--delaying some useful and reasonable regulation.

I predict absolutely nothing will happen. The vitriol between the Dems and Republicans in the house will not go away overnight. At the worst we will get some weird executive order that would eventually be found unconstitutional. It's funny the CNN antigunner shill Piers Morgan and the Obama administration are responsible for more murders total than the school shooting and they keep on going with no consequences. (Morgan caused British troop deaths and Obamas brain trust got a lot of innocent Mexicans killed)
    My prediction.

You're right, but Obama has killed many more than just those in Mexico. Look at how many innocent women and children have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan because of his immoral drone killings and other insidious acts.

Hell we have somewhere near 2,000 children that are killed every single day in the good ol' United States, but we don't hear the liberals crying over that do we? What am I speaking about? ABORTION! That wouldn't fit into their agenda, and if it isn't on their agenda they don't care if we kill a million babies a year.

I totally agree Glockster, but Obama will not let anything stop him from disarming us. I fear that even if the senate and the house somehow stop this gun ban, that he will use his "Executive Powers" and pass the ban. I also see a HUGE tax on ammo so that all those who recently bought AR's will not be able to shoot them because ammo will be unavailable, or just to much to buy.

Another question I have, is when will we say enough is enough? They have trampled on the constitution already, so if they do decide to ban ALL weapons, who will rise up and march? I see lots of posts saying they won't take their guns, that they will fight, but really, would you?

I've already had enough! I had enough years ago! The real question is will when everyone else realise that we are allowing our government to destroy our rights, our country, and our way of life! I am mad, but I am mad at my fellow contrymen who refuse to stand up to the tyrannical nonsense and stand up for what is right!

What kind of life are we going to allow our children and grandchildren to live? I know one thing is for sure -- if we keep going down this road we are currently on, my children will have no life, they will be slaves of the government!

Watch these videos. This is only MORE proof of what happens when we set back and allow our employees to become our masters! This has already happened people, and it only gets worse from here!

I think this will play out somewhat like a lawsuit. If you read the proposed legislation at Di Fi's website it is incredibly, outrageously restrictive. Beyond belief. Sort of the way the initial damages demanded in a lawsuit would be outrageous, like $100,000,000 for a dented fender. They start there and negotiate their way down to something lesser, and then when they settle for $50,000 the NRA and friends tout all that they "protected". Never mind that paying $50,000 for a dented fender is for suckers. So those defending gun rights will acquiesce and give up a bunch of our rights and then pat themselves on the back for how much they "saved".
