A couple newspapers in VA did that.

It basically tells criminals where to burgle guns.

Slime.

Hopefully the citizens in NY will recognize the nasty, hateful attitude of the editorial staff, and picket all the advertisers of that paper.

Start posting gov't officials and newspaper managers names and addresses .. good for the goose, good for the gander.

Well a blogger is fighting fire with fire and has released all the editors personal info and sat view of her home. I think it is a great idea, she should sweat at every little noise she hears at night. The stress she put guns owners through, I hope she enjoys that karma.

But so many conservatives and gun owners over the years on various forums I've hung out on have always said, "... if you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide."

http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/s...eeds-a-gun-in-Australia&p=1869893#post1869893 this thread is the same release of info, altho different circumstances

from post #481
Yesterday police revealed a Sydney man was tied up, blindfolded and shot during a robbery six weeks ago in which 22 legally owned handguns - including several Glocks - were stolen from safes at his home. However, Detective Superintendent Ken Finch, head of the firearms and organised crime squad said yesterday: "We have no evidence to suggest there is any link to the registry and these robberies."

These so called conservatives don't understand rights and don't understand that it isn't about having something to hide.

I've attempted over the years to convince them of this, especially with such instruments of privacy infringements as the Patriot Act, NDAA, etc. Few are willing to pull their heads out of their hindquarters and make an attempt to understand the natural right to privacy (or any other natural right for that matter).

Is this even legal? I understand that it can all be accessed via FOIA, but I'm guessing (and hoping) that there are laws against publishing personal information.

Don't know about the legality. But public, is public.

Of course this can always be avoided by simply having Constitutional Carry and zero paperwork. I know, I know... that's to radical for most people who only have good intentions when it comes to allowing people to carry firearms. It's not as though this is a slippery slope or something similiar.

No, the law dealing with this license specifically says that name & address are public info.
The address, phone, & google maps house picture of the writer is being circulated on Facebook.
I just hope that people aren't stupid about it - no threats, don't call at unreasonable hours.

An interesting development that I just heard on CNN - that a lawyer blogged the names and addresses of the editor and writers responsible for disseminating the gun owners' info. If true, this sounds like it could get ugly. I frankly don't see anything wrong with being labeled a gun owner. But many are in the closet about it and likely for good cause (e.g., Chris' statement above.)

An excellent idea! Wish I'd thought of that.

If any of you haven't, have a look at the bloger's site - It's worth it!

A little research seems to suggest the unwanted publicity is having an effect on the idiots; a "facebook" file has been shut down.

The parent company of The Journal News is Gannett, located in Mc Lean, VA.
http://www.gannett.com/article/99999999/WHOWEARE04/110714008

Being in the news business in Virginia when the Roanoke Times published gun owner's names in VA, is there any question that Gannett and the Journal News didn't know that the Roanoke Times had to take down their list after outrage of them putting Domestic Violence victims, parole officers, crime witnesses, ect lives in danger?

I think it's fair to say the Roanoke Times is probably where they got the idea.

If it can be shown that they knew about the Roanoke times, I would think there is a strong lawsuit here. The first amendment does not extend to promoting violence.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard and read that over the years and what always comes to mind when is Martin Niemöller's famous piece of prose;

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a catholic.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.
