Very appropriate and very timely.

No less a personage that one of seven Honorary American Citizens, Sir Winston S. Churchill, stated it very well, "A people who fail to to learn from history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of history."

He also said the Americans are a people who will do the right thing only after they have tried everything else. I do believe the man knew us quite well.

Well, I'd be willing to let them have Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey -- free of charge- but must take all.

They can do what they like to the current inhabitants but they cannot let them leave the territory !

Gun control is people control is genocide.

This is what needs to be stressed. They try to take the human aspect out of it by demonizing an inanimate object. Guns don't need controlling, they don't act on their own. They know they wouldn't get as far advocating people control. If that is the case we should advocate cigarette control, they kill 400,000 plus people a year in this country.

P.S. I don't like smoking but would never advocate what people choose to do with their bodies.

Instead of importing anti-gun liberals from assorted countries (like Mexico for one example), we should start importing pro-gun Russians.

Besides, we might just need some help later on -- Да?

Progressives are like parasites. They see, they infest, they destroy. If they're so enamored by statism, it would be easier for them to move to a place it already exists and leave this land for those who are fond of Liberty.

I suggest we do trades similar to the those in sports. We trade our has been statist progressives for pro-Liberty individuals. It's a win-win solution. :)

A little side note.

Perhaps a year ago I read an interesting comment. I think the context was Indian Ocean piracy, the pirates operating from the failed state of Somalia. The blogger pointed out that all modern states are failed states.

For example, the US fedgov has driven its debt to the moon, loots its working class, and is in bed with crony capitalists, while working diligently to help destroy the value of the dollar. Definitely a failed state.

Same for much of the Eurozone.

Just go down the list of governments.

Much later I read another blogger who pointed out that all states fail. If you think about it, the slide toward tyranny is pretty much guaranteed, or has been to date, so in that context, all states fail.

I suspect that even if we could bring about a Utopian society, the "law" of entropy would still apply.

That doesn't mean we should not try to fix what's wrong in America, just not seek to achieve perfection as it's not possible.

Still, and looking at where America is at today, there's PLENTY of room for improvement -- starting with the 2nd Amendment!

;-)

History has proven this to be correct and all one needs to do is study the fall of the Roman Empire. But we don't need to go back that far since more modern example abound. Nation states fail for through either external invasion or collapse from within. It is as perennial as the grass.

Here is a good and short video on the path of governments.

The beginning of the end of any government is when the people demand the government be the "be all, do all" solution to all of life's problems. The end is accelerated when those who are parasites on the body of society realize that they can vote themselves "bread and circuses" at the expense of the productive members of society.

A famous author once wrote that a reliable indicator of the state of health of a society is, of all things, the cleanliness of public restrooms. I am old enough to remember a time in this country when it was very rare to go into a public restroom that was not clean. Now, it is just as rare to go into one that is clean.

The United States will either become another quasi-Socialist experiment doomed to failure at the start, a loose confederation of at least four separate countries that will be ripe for conquest by outside forces, or a theocracy to rival that of Saudi Arabia.

Well, yes. But, one of the blogger's points is that a state is a failed state long before it collapses or succumbs to invasion.

Statist thinking would mean that a state fails when it no longer preserves itself in power, which is just another way of saying when the men who are the government can no longer keep themselves in power or perpetuate the hold on power for their co-conspirators. Under statist thinking, the standard is whether the state preserves itself.

The only legitimate purpose for a state is protection of rights. Under this standard, a state is a failure much earlier. Much, much earlier. Thus, even the US fedgov is a failed state. It preys upon those it claims to protect.
