We'll see, if they have anything worth buying.

at the last portland buyback people were opting to take 50 dollars in CASH over 100 dollars in gift cards.... you may not even need to match the buyback amount, if someone wants greenbacks more then a magnetic strip they may be willing to take a hit for the convienence

Started Amazon Blacklist request on FB

Maybe it will spread, maybe not, I don't have too many friends on FB as I keep it to people I know in real life.

Seattle, a city strapped for cash. The "buy back".
When even fox news shows report after report of "experts" informing us that "buy backs" do nothing to effect crime or the number of "weapons on the street". Still, the hoplophobic will spend thousands of dollars in this endeavor. This will go hand in hand with magrimms reelection campaign announcement today. My mind boggles at the thought of magrimms horror rhetoric frightening people into giving up their Arms "for the 'greater good". His little pocket of socialists in king county will vote for him. He will continue to be a thorn in our collective side and we will have to continue slapping him down. We may be small Nationally, but this is OUR State. We live here and live here Armed.

Well, I quit trying to make sense of Seattle's politics years ago MSG.

as far as I'm concerned, they can buy and destroy all the scrap iron and occasional antique that people will bring 'em

however if they must do such a program...

I would think they should have a provision to donate truly valuable firearms to museums or C&R collectors. and that they should eTRACE every SINGLE piece brought in to make sure it's not stolen.

but other then that you can't expect people like that to thing about this plan to the same degree as you and I.

Taking a look at the RCW 9.13.020, 9.13.030, 9.13.040, 9.41.098 and AGO 1989 No.19 23 October 1989
It will be interesting to see if the city auctions them in accordance with the AG opinion, sells them to individual officers or the city keeps posession as city property.
I know these cites deal with "forfeited" firearms, but with a turn in they are technically forfeited.

Amazon...??

Maybe it will spread, maybe not, I don't have too many friends on FB as I keep it to people I know in real life.

I thought I remembered something about Amazon on the SAF site, and I was right (http://www.saf.org/ ). Is Amazon trying to play both sides, or is their "sponsorship" limited to selling gift cards at standard prices as they would to anyone with money in hand?

They get an affilate commission. Anybody can, pro-gun or anti-gun. Amazon does not appear to be a sponsor of them.

I sent a message to them through FB asking their thoughts on Amazon donating to the gun buyback.

ETA, Microsoft might be though.

http://www.saf.org/saf_sponsor.htm

Only $15 for an annual membership? Nice.

I'd buy an "assault rifle" for $200... I'm sure if you tell the person you are buying from that you will need to see ID and do a bill of sale confirming it's not stolen you will be covered, although if it turns out to be stolen then I'm sure the firearm would be confiscated. According to what I've read most of the guns that come in are one that have been inherited and not wanted. I even saw a Colt Python in one of the pictures... :(

The other option would be to provide free appraisals within line of sight of where the SPD are doing the buy back. Let people know how much they are being screwed and make an offer to buy the weapon.

The only thing gun buy backs are good for is destroying evidence that might have been used in a crime. Think about it, go shoot someone with a cheap gun then turn it into the police and get close to your money back. Evidence is now destroyed...

Remind me to contact Amazon.com and express to them my irritation at their involvement in this issue...

Can't believe I missed this. I like to go to buybacks, stand out front, and try to score some good guns and pay more than what the city/sponsors will offer.

So who is seriously interested in going? I've got the OK from the wife to head down with a few hundred bucks. I think there are 1 or 2 guys from my work who are interested in going.

I am looking to give the heads up to the media to get some coverage.

I will be oc. I was thinking of bringing down a table and maybe getting a banner made up. Something that says "we'll pay cash".

Magrimm said the weapons would be number checked and destroyed. I can see LEOs "shopping" the turn-ins for addition to personal inventory

This is a good idea, I have an OCDO banner that always looks good. I plan on bringing it to the ceasefire march too!
