Stocking up?

With all the craziness going on if you have not though about stocking up on ammo you might want to consider it.
Was reading a couple weeks ago they are looking at banning bulk ammo and all sales must be reported to Big Brother.

There is some sites that charge no tax and free shipping on bulk ammo.

I am not sure if I can list some good sites or not so until I am told I will not put any links in here.

Another thing you might consider is hiding places for your guns and ammo. When there is a lock down, crime for that will go up. So don't make it easy for them. Hide it all and leave no trace that you even have a gun.

I am getting creative at home and putting my guns, ammo, tools and gun cleaning chemicals away.

Your all awesome.
Keep fighting the deception that has taken hold of the weak minded.

I hope this is ok to mention, my blog which is linked In my signature contains bulk ammo prices which I update weekly, usually Wednesday or Thursday. I also post whether or not they have stock. I try to pull the cheapest prices but will pick something more expensive if it's stocked.

This thread is Off Topic

How is a thread on ammunition availability off topic on a GUN FORUM?

Kinda hard to OC with no bullets unless you dig it Cali-style.

Anywayz....

If you haven't thought about stocking up until now, well, you're kinda screwed. Ain't much to be found, especially .223. At least the "cheap" stuff. I found a LGS with some reasonable Russian boxes, ain't saying where since I plan to go back next weekend and collect whatever's left.

ETA: Thanks for the table skeith. Kinda demonstrates my point that nothing's in stock, but good bookmark if the pendulum swings back.

Just something to bookmark... Some of these will give you a dealers account IF you have a C&R license.

Just for the loading notes.

Good option if you have the time and are willing to accept the inevitable reliability problems.
What reliability problems?
I've been reloading for 42 years and never had any problems.

42 years and NEVER a missed primer or squib load? Sorry, but I do doubt that.

ESPECIALLY if one is going for quantity over quality, which after all IS the whole point of "stocking up," errors like that are inevitable, and I'd venture at a much higher rate than error by automated machine. Now, if one is loading for maximum accuracy and painstakingly measure & weighing each cartridge to be sure it's just so, that may be different, but not very conducing to stocking up thousands of rounds.

I began reloading in 1966. There `were a couple times, related to not knowing how to set up the press and dies. I was able to correct that within the first 100 rounds. I cannot recall a single problem with ANY of my reloads since then. In fact, I have had significantly more problems with "QUALITY?" factory ammunition than I ever had with my reloads after the first 100 reloaded rounds. The devil is in the details. I use a progressive press, which has increased my quantity of reloads in a given time frame, but there has not been any problems.

I have had just as many, if not more problems with factory ammo than I have with my hand loads.

I've always had virtually NO trouble with factory ammo, while reloads are nothing BUT trouble. And then there's the whole TIME issue which I see no one has yet addressed. Until the zombies actually start wandering around, handloading just isn't worth the time & trouble, ESPECIALLY for stockpiling.

I was dialing my scope in on my .243.... and wasn't happy and couldn't get any better than 2in. groups at 100... . So, I went to the beginning and tore apart about 4 or 5 rounds of stock Winchester rounds....and measured everything...bullets varied by +/- 5-8% and most surprising was the powder. I found over a 10% variation between loads in the same box.....so much for QC...from the factory. They are making this stuff to work in just about anything and everything, and so I think their tolerances are a little wider than mine for a specific load for a specific gun....reloading is a hobby with a payday....it's fun, interesting, allows more range time for the cost savings...max load is less important than max accuracy for each application......it's the same for pistol loads when i OC...winter and summer blends for t-shirts and four layers of clothes......diff't strokes if you don't have the patience for it.

See, now I didn't say that handloading was not not superior for accuracy. Actually I said exactly the opposite. I'm saying it's not a practical way to stockpile hundreds or thousands of rounds for the average shooter. Now if you're retired or whatever and have all day to sit in front of a press & bang out rounds for hours, then there might be an advantage, certainly for cost. But most folks don't have that luxury. And I'd sure be leery of those rounds after the 5th or 6th hour.

You win....you should by as much ammo as you want....when it goes on sale, and when it is available...hopefully soon. :D

Except for those years when I was an over-the-road truck driver and on the road 12 out of 14 days at a time I always could find the time to reload. A couple hours a week was all I needed for reloading a couple hundred rounds.
I started reloading with a Lee classic loader at about 50 rounds an hour. Then I went to a single stage press, (about 100 rds an hour) which I still use for all except 38special and 40 S&W. For those two I use a Dillon Square Deal B at the rate of 200 rds an hour.
When using a single stage press, the non-critical operations (de priming, lubing, sizing, trimming and cleaning the lube off the cases) can be done while watching the tv.

Freedommunitions used to be the **** until about a month ago.

Once in the carrier hands, it usually only took 1 day due to being in idaho. Turn around time was quick as hecks...until about a month ago.
