Freedom and being free

I was at the Gun Across America Rally here in Las Vegas, NV Yesterday and I got into a lot of great conversations with a lot of people. The one that hit me the hardest though was about freedom. A very smart lady said "Freedom isn't something that's given to you, it's not something you can wait to have. Freedom is a frame of mind, a state of being. You can not be free until you start acting free"

Acting free. How simple. That is all it takes, is to remove yourself from everything that keeps you from being free. I know that sounds too simple, but there are small things that you can do that make you more free than you were the day before.

Learn to do something from scratch, all the way from scratch. I'm talking, if you had to, go in nature and harvest.

You can make primers for reloading, I didn't know this until yesterday, from matchsticks!

This was sort of a revelation to me so I wanted to share it with all of you. Also, I will put a whole host of websites that have stuff from scratch.

You've never heard the expression "the trappings of life"? I take that as your mortgage, car payments, accumulated stuff, utility bills, debt, all the stuff that make us credit worthy entities in this world. The homeless are the free ones. As Janice Joplin sang "freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose". Seriously though, I am amazed that people don't understand the concept of liberty and freedom. I can agree also that one should learn to do something from 'scratch'. Ol' Dan'l Boone dug up wild ginger root when he needed quick money. Folks in Michigan go Morel mushroom hunting in the spring and make good money selling it to high end restaurants. But, you know...... the state will provide right??? why work.

I had heard about it, I just never really spent too much time thinking about it. My work takes a lot of my time along with my family and new little one in the house. My co-workers had convinced me to get WIC because we fall in that income bracket and hey "It's free". I am not going to use it anymore. I've realized how many people are part of the problem and I am taking myself, and my family, from the bad side of the equation. There are people who truly fell on hard times and need it to get back on their feet (and will actually get back on their feet). I don't, I pay my bills and live comfortably even with being in the lower middle class bracket.

Sadly you are right though, there are many people who will willingly jump into the prison of welfare and wonder why they are unhappy... Their choice, but I am sick of paying for it.

Great topic. You might think about this in addition. Who owns your life? Who actually has any legitimate authority to decide for you? Who has the ultimate responsibility for your life, your safety, and that of your legitimate dependents? Who should be responsible for the consequences of your choices and actions?

If you consede any of that authority to someone else, or to some "government," does that give you or anyone else the right to consede for others? Does what you believe or want impose any obligation on others? Does what someone else believes or wants impose any real obligation on you, either to go along with it or to pay for it?

I have lots of questions like that. My answer?

I live, therefore I am. I own my life and body, and am the only one responsible for that life and my safety. That's why I carry a gun.
