Haha. It is that. I was looking at it more from the line of thought that a lot of people are terrified of guns, but not of cars. Yet cars carry far more energy than guns.

However, at four miles per hour I am able to dodge that "bullet." A 9mm, not hardly. Energy transfer is irrelevant if that transfer is not to you. Also, if I am not able to dodge the "bullet" I have a very high probability of hopping a ride. A 9mm? Well.....not hardly.

Thanks! And again, I wasn't looking at this so much for the practical aspect as for the "fear aspect" (for lack of a better term).

Many people are terrified of guns, yet don't think twice about driving their car, even though the car is arguably more dangerous. And frankly, it's not that easy to get out of the way of a car. Especially if it's going more than 4 mph. lol.

I respectfully submit that folks are terrified of guns.....in the hands of folks they do not know. Or, more correctly, they are terrified of folks who do not see the world as they see it.

Those are not the same thing.

For the first, if that were the case, they would be afraid of all folks they don't know, since that is the crux of their fear. They would not be afraid if they knew the person, so it's not the gun, or even the person, they fear. It's the fact they haven't met the person. Which has nothing to do with the gun, or the unknown person, and everything to do with their own irrational fear.

The second would be true whether guns were involved or not. If they are terrified of differing views, the gun would have little to do with that fear.

When a citizen sees a gun on another citizen who they do not know they are either "terrified" and call LE, or they are not terrified and ignore the gun. This example occurs quite frequently. Yes, terrified is the incorrect term for all citizens who call LE, "fear" is more appropriate I think. If that same citizen saw a gun on someone they know, acquaintance or friend/family member, it is unlikely that they would be terrified (fearful). It is unlikely that a call is placed to LE.

Or, more correctly, they are terrified of folks who do not see the world as they see it.
