.GOV does understand, why there can't be an Armed Population

This is a well written and simplified thread starter. It's an interesting thread to read.

"True as far as it goes, but it goes much deeper.
An armed citizen is a more confident person. He/she feels they can handle things themselves without asking for help and that confidence carries over into all aspects of their lives, thus making them LESS dependent on the Nanny State of the Liberal Utopia. "

Thanks for the thread some real idiots on there as always bottom line is We as Americans have the right to keep and bear arms and should always have that right as many that have gone before me i am willing to take up arms and defend these rights and so should every American. The military fights our battles abroad it is our responsibility to join them at home and fight to keep the rights millions have died protecting, lest their deaths be in vain i do not wish to nor will i Spit on the graves of soldiers that have died.So I say Obama and your cronies back off and leave the second amendment where it is.

The part you chose to quote is a wonderful summation of why there needs to be a RKBA. We are only truly free when we are not dependent on others.

I used to try to drum that foundational idea into my students heads. About half of them were black, so the message (and its reference to slavery) should have resonated. Whether or not they accepted it, I can't say, but it had to strike a chord in them.

I would tell them that until they started internalizing instead of externalizing, until they started looking for how they could take action to influence their future, rather than blame others for the bad things that happened to them, they would never be free; they would be slaves to those whom they blamed for their misfortune.

Yes, others may have contributed to your fortunes, but you cannot control those others. You can only control yourself. Act in a way that will have the greatest chance of bringing about the outcomes you desire. THAT is Liberty. It is also called Responsibility. The two ideas are so interwoven as to be indistinguishable.

Unfortunately, too many look to the state to secure a satisfactory future. More unfortunately, they don't want us exercising Liberty because that weakens the power of the state and endangers their ability to get it to provide outcomes.

Thanks for the F U Q. It motivated me to read the linked post. It's a great read.

Your welcome, I just thought it was one of the best summations I have read for quite some time.
