Jim Sensenbrenner seeks probe of faulty ATF operation
Wisconsin congressman wants agency to explain mistakes

Members of Congress and a local alderman are calling for answers from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about a storefront sting operation in Milwaukee where an agent's machine gun was lost and the operation was ripped off, along with other problems.

U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) issued a statement saying he would be investigating the matter.

"News of the botched ATF Milwaukee operation is extremely concerning. The Obama Administration wants to pass new gun laws and give new responsibilities to the ATF, but the agency has been inept at enforcing the laws that we already have," Sensenbrenner said. "I will be investigating the ATF's actions and mistakes because this type of mismanagement is not acceptable. Wisconsinites deserve answers, and I am not going to wait until we have another Fast and Furious-like situation to find them."
I particularly like how Rep. Moore uses this as an opportunity to push Obama's nominee to head the ATF.

in this version of the story people were buying guns right off the shelves from gander and reselling them to the UC ATF for a profit

from the article "Other cases reveal that the agency's operation was paying such high prices that some defendants bought guns from stores such as Gander Mountain and sold them to the agents for a quick profit."

Did anyone catch the part about one of their vehicles getting burglarized and some troll walking off with a select-fire rifle?
If the idiot would have kept his mouth shut, the thief would have a full-auto out there yet in the hands of a violent criminal scumbag.

Nutczak, looks like the select fire rifle is still out there in Milwaukee, by my reading.

Mayor Barrett is pounding Sheriff Clarke on his pro-gun stand but I haven't heard or read a single word from him about the BATFE bungling. Chief Flynn says Clarke is terrorizing the people but in spite of ATF losing handguns and a automatic rifle the streets of Milwaukee are as safe as ever. This is not a comforting thought.

Philanderin' Flynn is trying to tell us is that crime is so bad already one more machine gun will hardly matter.

Somehow, I fear this may not be far from truth.

so i only see one crime in purchasing a new gun from gander to sell it to another licensed dealer at a profit , that would be the absurd waste of tax dollars

paying ganders inflated prices so they can heat a building you could have 4 soccer games at a time in , is stupid but not really a crime

purchasing a gun with the intent of selling it to an restricted individual is a crime

but is purchasing a gun for your own use in turning a profit selling it back to a licensed dealer really a crime.

that would be right there with buying a gun with a a half oz of gold on it so you could melt off the gold sell it for scrap and de-mill the gun with a torch , not really the guns intended purpose but not really a crime

but only a moron would sell a gun with that much gold on it for less than the scrap value of the gold and only an atf agent posing as a dealer will pay you more than gander's price for a used gun.

dealers are in the business of making money inherently are not going to pay top dollar for a used gun , i just bought used pistol Saturday i get to go pick it up tonight or tomorrow it was a gun i saw in the case at my dealer 3 months ago I am paying 10 dollars less for it 3 months and a box of shells later because the guy tried it once and came back and traded it on a smaller gun I am sure the dealer made 50 dollars on this , and normally 10 dollars less than it sold for 3 months ago would have me asking for 25 but in the current availability i was excited to get it for 10 less as it is the only one around.

Back on Jan 4th I was contacted by a guy off of Armslist that wanted to buy a shotgun I had for sale. He said he was from IL but had a FOID card. He also said that the gun would only be kept in WI. I went back and forth with him by email a few times but then stopped communicating with him after finding that it was illegal to sell to an out of state resident. He also was getting a little pushy with the time frame on getting the shotgun and wasn't interested in me sending it to an FFL down in IL... I thought it was a little weird, but then again, FIBS usually are.

It didn't strike me until recently that this could have been an ATF setup. I wonder if they just emailed everyone on Armslist and found some poor guy ignorant of the law to do business with.

Seeing how any arrest in WI having to do with selling to an IL resident (the Chicago connection) would be great publicity for closing the "gun show loophole" I can see a future news release on any poor sap maybe caught in this trap.

Or is my tinfoil hat on too tight?
